New Definition For The Wisconsin Bar

There has been a murder trial being conducted in Wausau, in which a man is accused of killing a woman after a night of drinking. The defense only had seven witnesses on their list, but only six testified. The seventh person was too drunk:

Monday Defense Attorney Peter Thompson called only six witnesses.

There would have been one more, if the judge hadn't ruled he was too drunk to testify.

Scott Marquardt, 59, was subpoenaed by the defense to testify, but he didn't show up to Marathon County court as scheduled.

When he was retrieved, the judge said Marquardt registered a 0.25 blood alcohol concentration and was held in contempt of court.

"I do find that for you to have the blood alcohol concentration that's been represented to me while under subpoena is an act of contempt," said Judge Greg Grau.

Judge Grau ordered the witness spend the night in jail to sober up before testifying Tuesday morning.

I wonder what kind of cocktail Marquardt ordered when the judge called for order in the court.

Yeah, I know it's old and corny, but I'm tired.

Addendum: The murder suspect was found guilty.
