Why Would Anyone Equate Conservatives With Terrorists?

Earlier this year, the federal government came out with document advising law enforcement agencies to keep an eye on the more fringe right wing groups for possible regression into a terrorist sect. This caused the predictable faux outrage and consternation among conservatives nationwide.

How dare the feds for insinuating these sort of things!

After all, who could take anything scary or inappropriate from national squawking head, Pat Buchanan telling Todd "First Dude" Palin to go out and murder the father of his grandchild:
BUCHANAN: “Well, first, with regard to Levi, I think First Dude up there in Alaska, Todd Palin, ought to take Levi down to the creek and hold his head underwater until the thrashing stops.
I mean, that's an innocent statement, right? Who could misconstrue that?

Or on a local level, there is Frank J. Tamel, writing at the Conservative Hispanic that came out with this warm and fuzzy peace-loving post.

Crazy like a fox, Sarah Palin is not the quitter that some people think she is. She bought her license and armed herself to the teeth. She walked out of the Alaska Governor’s mansion to go donkey hunting where the donkeys roam; on the plains of the blue states in the lower forty-eight.

By shedding the encumbrances of governorship, she has freed herself to bag a few trophies. Look out, you donkeys; Sarah Palin is your worst nightmare. She will track you down, expose you in your lair, and take you out.

No, Sarah Palin hasn’t quit. She has just begun the hunt.

Can't you just feel the acceptance and tolerance from that?

Just makes you feel at peace knowing that all of these people want to go around carrying guns, because the other people are the scary ones.

While I did write this rather facetiously and tongue firmly in cheek, it is undeniable that there are some real psychos out there, regardless of political persuasion. What will keep me awake is knowing that there are some right wing nutters out there, probably with guns, and wondering if any of them were the 80+ people that have been trying to Google my home address (per Google Analytics).

  1. Come to think of it...been wanting your address. LMAO But shoot, I'd just ask. Google? Naw. Too much work. :P

Oh, and I'm pretty sure Pat Buchanan has a few screws lose anyways.

  2. More work that they realize. I worked in jobs like foster care and the House of Correction, where I didn't want them to know my address for obvious reasons. I never lifted the block.

It still can be found easy enough, but they will have to work a bit.

  3. Well, in your line of work, no doubt you come across people a tad more dangerous than us ol' harmless conservatives. But I tell ya, when people get something in their head, like find someone, they'll find a way, no matter how long it takes. Scary people! See? You need some self protection!

  4. Never said I didn't have any. But imagine how much better I could sleep knowing it would be harder for the bad guys to be bad.

  5. Did you know that states with the 'strongest' anti-gun laws, have the highest gun crimes? I'll see if I can find the stats for ya. Hate to say it, but if the bad guys want guns, it's not going to matter how many laws are put in place. Laws don't mean squat to criminals. :(

It would be real nice to live in a 'polite' world, but sadly, that's not what we are dealing with.

  6. No, it's not. But it is the guns that allow people to be impolite. I've rarely had problems with people because I treat them with respect. I wouldn't be showing them respect if I tried to intimidate them with a gun.

  7. The majority of gun owners don't need to "intimidate" anyone. Only your criminals types have attitude issues. Mostly, an insecurity problem. "Look at me! I'm a tough guy!" Pfft! No, what he/she is is a moron.

Won't deny there are some serious fruitcakes out there, but when you look at 95% of legal carriers NEVER use a weapon in a crime of any sort.....

  8. The majority of gun owners don't need to "intimidate" anyone.

You do realize, of course, you just belied one of the main talking points for the pro-gun crowd. The ones that say they need a gun to keep the criminals at bay.

And sorry, Kate, but I just don't trust your numbers.

  9. Gimme a break. First, they're not MY numbers. They're from law enforcement. Second, it's not intimidation! It's called defense. I'm sure you've heard "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". Well? Better the bad be blown away than you, right? Which would you rather see....a gang banger with an illegal weapon, shooting up a convenience store, or the store owner shooting said banger, like the dog he is, saving lives?

  10. Which would I rather see? Neither.

How about a young man earning a decent wage, even if he is African-American, and purchasing something from the store.

  11. What we want, and what actually is, are not always the same thing. I'd like to see kids educated, but ain't happening.

Doesn't matter what color the young "man" is....if he's a man, he won't be playing the "LOOK AT ME, I'm a tough guy" crap. BTW, that hyphen needs to be dropped. Why do you want divisions? :/

  12. I'd like to see kids educated, but ain't happening.

Walking around with a gun won't educate the kids in a good way, it will only continue the fallacy that adults only use might to get things done. Real grown ups know better ways.

  13. So, let's all sit in a big circle and sing Kumbaya, holding hands. That'll really keep you safe, won't it.

  14. More than playing Clint Eastwood does. How did your precious guns protect the 12 year old autistic boy?

  15. Dirty Harry took out the bad guys, and he was a movie character. Real like is a whole lot more rational, except when the irrational take over. :/

Sorry, I don't know anything about a 12 year old autistic boy.

  16. Yeah...sorry. I did read that, and it is a tragedy. People are flawed beings, and they make stupid mistakes. That was, undoubtedly, a REALLY careless, and stupid mistake.

The majority of gun owners do not leave loaded guns laying around where their children can get a hold of them. This is called common sense. The idea have leaving my guns, loaded, accessible to my grandchildren has never crossed my mind.

  17. Kate,

That is one of those, "it could never happen to me" stories. Everyone says it's a rarity, but it happens to frickin' often for it to be called that.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anyone who says "it could never happen to me", thinks they are invincible. That's why precautions should ALWAYS be taken, doubly so when children are around. It is a rarity. Thank God!

However, if you want to use such an incident to take guns away from law abiding people, I'd say you (collective) would be falling right into the control freaks laps.

  19. Never said take them away. Hell, Kate, you know I own some rifles and shotguns.

But this free for all in gun ownership isn't working out to well either.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Unfortunately, the 'free for all' comes from the criminal element.

  21. Not so much, cap m'friend.....not so much.
