Walker Should Be Ashamed Of Himself

Last Friday, WISN-TV reported on the consequences of Scott Walker's poorly thought out and wrong-minded plan to privatize all of the County's housekeeping staff. It was embarrassing to see Milwaukee County Courthouse looking so dirty and disgusting with piles of trash and clogged toilets.

Earlier this week, they went back to the courthouse and found that things were just as bad, if not actually worse than they were last Friday.

Now, the disgrace that Walker has brought upon us has reached national attention. At least they haven't gotten to Walker's apparent ethical issues yet, and seem to be focusing their attention on his ineptitude.

For the past six months, I, along with a few hundred other people who want Milwaukee County to be the world leader that it once was, have been working hard to prevent the county's further decline and maybe even reverse some of the damage done by politicians who, like Walker, put their own personal and political interests before the best interests of the County. While we are trying to fix our transit system, our parks system and restore vital services to our more vulnerable citizens, it only becomes harder when Walker does something like this.

While we are trying to make people want to come to Milwaukee County, whether it is to tour and see the wonderful things here, to move here and/or to bring their companies here, Walker is actively doing his very best to make Milwaukee County as unattractive as he possibly can. For the world of me, I don't see how having it proven beyond any doubt that he is incapable of running the county effectively is going to help his campaign for governor. But that is his problem, not mine. My concern is that he stop doing damage to Milwaukee County and to its image as he runs for higher office.

Cory Liebmann thinks Walker is shameless. That might very well be true.

But Walker should be ashamed for shaming us in front of the nation and the world.

  1. You're being incredibly overdramatic, as if anyone who thinks of coming here to visit or live gives a crap about the toilets in the Courthouse.

    Ha! I love puns.

Anyway, this issue does point to a lack of attention to detail and customer service. The fact that it's on Politico must have his political staff in an uproar.

I can't help but point out that it's not as if the toilets were a whole lot better when the County had unionized staff. I know you like to blame Walker for that too, but the fact is for some reason, either management or staff (likely both), the job didn't get done.

By the way, contrary to another post of yours on MCF, adding the sales tax (which I support) will not fix the County's long-term problems. It may actually make it worse if, as is likely, the County's powers that be (of both political persuasions) screw it up. Sales tax collections have actually, in recent years, risen more slowly than property taxes. And that's even leaving the recession aside. So again, something will have to be done on the cost side.

  2. So, capps. If the contracts aren't up until January, how is this Walkers fault? If it's true that the regular city/state employee's are still responsible for the clean up, and they aren't doing their job, then, they're covering themselves with something less than glory. And you would then be less than honest about the whole thing. I would hope that's not the case.

  3. don't you guys f---ing get it. walker is a jag off. he cuts and cuts and pretty soon there aren't enough people to do the job.then he blames the union and the beat goes on.Do you really believe janitors at 10.00 bucks an hour are going to break the county budget? This goof is a walking talking campaign slogan and f---heads like you eat it up with a spoon.Good hard working people are losing jobs that they have done well for years so this dope can stand up and tell everyone what a savior he is.

  4. Bill-

Walker laid off the people last week. Actually, some of them were let go even earlier than that.

The private contractor can't take over until late in January, leaving almost two months without cleaning. Walker then had to waste more money by giving his campaign contributor a second contract for just sweeping the hallways and cleaning the big bathrooms until the full contract kicks in.

  5. ATV,

I'll cover your stuff in a post at a later date. Right now I'm busy beating up the idiots on the Board for adding fuel to the fire.

And your argument about the sales tax makes no sense. Even a little money coming in is better than no money.

  6. Capps, he laid off so many people that no one could clean the toilets? Pardon my skepticism, but as we've discussed before I trust politicians of ANY stripe not at all. I put them on par with unions. Please don't take this as a slight towards you. As someonoe who's been driving for 20+ years, I've had a lot of bad experiences with them. I think we talked about that as well. I'll have to start writing this down on Duct Tape, what do you think? LOL BTW, I'll be in the area likely around the 26th or 27th. Maybe we can get together? Merry Christmas my friend.

  7. Actually, Bill, it's been building up for years.

As for the weekend next, it seems like we might be. A lot depends on the weather and my wife's work schedule.

BTW, the next time we are up and you are free, I did make a Neuske's fun last week. The bacon-infused cheeseburgers await you, my friend.

    Merry Christmas, my brother.
