Well, If That's The Comparison They Want To Make...

Scott Walker realizes that the $12 million in dirty lucre that he's accumulated isn't enough to buy his way to remaining in the governor's set, so now he's gone groveling to the Republican Governors Association for help.  They've come charging in to the state by flooding the airwaves with a commercial that tries to scare up the usual right wing bogeyman of job-killing high taxes.

One Wisconsin Now wonders if this is the argument they want to make.  They've done the homework and took a hard look at Walker's stats when he was Milwaukee County Executive:
Browne noted that an analysis of Milwaukee County budget documents and information from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics showed Gov. Walker’s performance as Milwaukee County Executive was equally dismal:

  • The total county property tax levy increased 19.94% or $43.77 million;
  • Total county spending increased 25.5% or $349.4 million and Walker proposed even higher spending increases of 34.6%, or $381.3 million;
  • The total number of unemployed grew from 30,749 to 44,618, an increase of 45%;

Browne concluded, “No amount of special interest spending can hide that as Milwaukee County Executive and now as Governor Scott Walker’s one- percent, trickle-down economics have failed to create jobs and hurt the middle class, working families and seniors.”
Well, I guess that RGA had to go with something, because they don't have a lot to work with in Walker.

  1. What's the saying, see a commercial or hear a message at least 13 times and you start to believe it?

    Or at least when you go to vote, those over-saturated commercials are making some guy's name stand out, while making the others seem like a poor choice.

    The power of advertising.

  2. The other is a poor choice!
    You cant hide from the fact that Walker never raised taxes in one of his budget proposals during his tenure. Instead You find numbers that suit your bias and fail to give details. I feel like I'm reading the Onion sometimes here. Truth be told I'll bet there are quite a few states that would want to trade governors with us. Quite a few laid off state employees in neighboring states wish they could still be working with Walkers "cuts" as well.
    Well at least they've identified themselves and I don't have to hear you speculate that its the Koch brothers money.

    1. Each of Walker's proposed budgets was higher than his previous proposed budget, so yes, he included tax hikes in them.

      And considering that Illinois workers were out in force protesting his appearance in Springfield the other day, you're mistaken on that as well.

      You also haven't addressed the 13,400 public sector workers that have been laid off.

      And yes, just to tick you off, Koch Bros did give tons of money to RGA.

      You're 0 for 4.

    2. Yes, Walker used the increases from the prior year (due of course to the board) in each new budget. I agree. But did he increase the budget himself?

      Unions and George Soros more than likely paid the protestors (just to tick you off)

      Smaller government. Bring it on.

      So then I'm assuming all the governors that benefitted from the Koch money signed a pledge not to sign a budget unless it included a pipeline through there state? right?

      I think your a good guy, misguided, but funny sometimes.

    3. He did, by accepting the increase.

      LOL! I wish I had some of that money.

      Walker increased the size and cost of state government.

      It wouldn't surprise me.

  3. Maybe those other states could make an offer on Walker? I hear Tonette thinks Scotty is working for peanuts. And, really, unlike many of us, he has no real attachment to this state. For the right price, he can be reprogrammed to say any state's name with the same lack of enthusiasm and passionless stare.

    Trickle down doesn't work. Never has. The only way to provide MIDDLE CLASS tax relief, is to RAISE taxes on the 1%.

    Unlike Walker, Dwight Eisenhower was a fiscal conservative. Top marginal tax rates on the 1% were north of 90%. Now Romeny is below 15% on ALL his income.

    Billionaire Nick Hanauer: "Raise Taxes on Rich to Reward True Job Creators: "......When businesspeople take credit for creating jobs, it is like squirrels taking credit for creating evolution. In fact, it’s the other way around.
    It is unquestionably true that without entrepreneurs and investors, you can’t have a dynamic and growing capitalist economy. But it’s equally true that without consumers, you can’t have entrepreneurs and investors. And the more we have happy customers with lots of disposable income, the better our businesses will do.
    That’s why our current policies are so upside down. When the American middle class defends a tax system in which the lion’s share of benefits accrues to the richest, all in the name of job creation, all that happens is that the rich get richer.
    And that’s what has been happening in the U.S. for the last 30 years. ...."

    1. Ok John, lets say your right, if the path to recovery is in higher taxes why hasnt Obama raised taxes? The democrats led the house and senate for two years under Obama, taxes didnt go up, unless you consider his health care plan a tax. Chris Abele, no tax raise.
      Share your ideals, let Kathleen Falk spread your theories in her campaigning for governor.

    2. I thought that Obama was taxing us to death. That's what all you right wingers have been telling us anyway.

      And Abele hasn't had his second budget yet, so we'll see.

    3. No....he's spending us to death. I understand it will take you more time but I have faith that you'll figure it out. Any recovery you can claim is from Obama is only because he is willing to sacrifice the value of the dollar to help in the short term. Eventually somebody will have to make the unpopular choices or move over Greece, cause here we come.

  5. Yeah, I don't think they want to compare Walker's record with Falk's in Madison. I broke that down, and Scotty doesn't look too good. In fact, he increased spending more per person than Falk!

    And I don't even like Falk that much, but when it comes to performance and clean government, she ran circles around Walker.

  6. Racist, you fell for that Walker ploy, over and over, of proposing unrealistic budgets that always had to be fixed by the County Board? Wow, most of us in Milwaukee County were on to Walker for that.

    And that's why most of us in Milwaukee County, who knew him and his tricks all too well, voted AGAINST Walker, two to one, for governor. We tried to spare the state from all that has happened, but fools like you would not listen to those who knew him.

    1. Maybe, but look at my options. Fiscal responsibility, or tax and spend (or leave the bill for the next budget as the president is doing)

    2. Need I point out again that Walker left Milwaukee County with nearly a billion dollars in unpaid debts? If that's not kicking the can down the road, what is?

    3. I thought it was 55 million, plus your petty lawsuit I guess. Luckily, Abele had act 10 to help him correct the "projected revenue shortfall".

      Delete
    4. Better check your facts again. Abele and the Board both said that Act 10 was meaningless because Walker already used it, which increased the shortfall.
