Walker Gets Punt'd

As the gentle reader is surely aware of, Scott Walker took a taxpayer-funded jaunt over the pond to merry old England where he proceeded to embarrass himself (and us) by refusing to answer some simple questions, like whether he believes in evolution.

As I wrote at Crooks and Liars, while Walker is hoping that this would all go away, he gets called out by his 73 year old high school science teacher:
Among those who questioned Walker: the chair of his high school science department, Ann Serpe, 73. “Answer the question when they ask you!” Serpe said in an interview. “He could have manned up a bit. That’s what I would tell him.”

Serpe, who taught chemistry and chaired the math and science department at Delavan-Darien High School in Delavan, Wis., before her retirement in 1998, now lives in nearby Elkhorn. She recalls that Walker, her pupil and an advisee in student government, was a bright, committed participant in class. Walker graduated in 1986.

What would Walker have learned in high school? “We taught the theory of evolution, and human evolution, as a prerequisite to understanding biological classification. I went out and looked at my biology textbook just to make sure.”
Adding to Walker's chagrin, I also cite an English commenter who nails it:
What does one expect from an uneducated toff who is little more than a factotum for the Koch brothers? What is most unsettling is that there are all to many American voters who do not recognize they are dealing with a male Sarah Palin. The fact he duped a majority of Wisconsin voters to re-elect him reveals how dangerous Walker is, how politically stupid and indolent the American voter is, and suggests that the spirit of Joe McCarthy thrives in its home state.
What a bloody embarrassment Walker is.

  1. Walker was coached to say exactly what he said. Every 2012 Presidential candidate was asked this question. He was appealing to the Republican base, which is dangerously dumbed down. That he was re-elected speaks volumes about how Charlie Sykes, Vicki McKenna and their ilk have turned half of the Wisconsin electorate into nincompoops.

  2. What if Walker is right, the people of Wisconsin voted for the best candidate, and you're the nincompoop? Maybe you're hacking away at your keyboard hoping to make a personal connection on a little island of unreality like CogDis so that you don't have to face the reality that Wisconsin's changed and left you behind?

    1. Why do you think it is good that too many in Wisconsin have become energetically ignorant?

    2. Reality to Anon 8:57--->You're traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead - your next stop, the Twilight Zone!

Step back and explain what happened to the half a billion dollar surplus the govenor said the state had last November.

  5. Actually Anon 8:57, Wisconsin is the one left behind. Maybe in opposite world, where debt is good, education is bad, and stupid is intelligent, would we be leaving anyone behind.
What is bizarre is why, with all of the moronic things that he has said and done, then throw in the constant bald faced lies, this is being made the issue? The liberal media needs to get off the antireligious kick because when you condemn someone's faith you aren't going to get them to listen to anything else. So you read some of the blogs and they basically say Walker is a moron for his Christian beliefs. Then they expect other Christian to believe that Walker is corrupt. You might as well say, Walker is really stupid and so are you, so don't vote for him. This is exactly why this clown is in office. In reality, Walker follows no Christian principles. He is a hateful, vengeful, money loving, power hungry liar. Maybe the media should ask this question: Do you believe that when Jesus said:"Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me" Matthew 25 , that you should interpret that literally? Why don't you Governor? Explain why something that is mentioned over and over again is not part of your core beliefs.

    1. I agree with you, except for the assumption that mocking the denial of evolution equals an attack on Christianity. The Catholic Church has accepted evolution throughout my lifetime. Most consider Catholics are Christians. I am much older than Walker. Only religious extremists reject evolution. But they make up some of the most activist members of the GOP.

    2. You're hitting on the real story behind the evolution dodge- it shows what a dishonest fool Walker is, and how clueless he is when he has to go off-script.

He's basically every bad stereotype of a politician, believing in absolutely nothing other than cynicism and the acquisition of power. And no, they don't all do that

    3. There is a group called Christians Against Dinosaurs who believe Big Paleo is perpetrating the Dinosaur Hoax to make millions. A spokeswoman claims Paleo Hoaxters named dinosaurs before any fossils were found. Her Facebook page shows she likes a book by a notorious atheist "Atlas Shrugged." These are the activists Walker is working to appeal to.

    4. Sociopaths do not know truth from lies nor do they care. The fact is that all parents want a better life for their children and grandchildren and the key to that is education, not Honey Boo Boo.
