On the 6/19 Mitch Henck Show on 92.1FM in Madison, Steve nASS staffer, Mike Mikalsen was on a roundtable discussion with Bret Hulsey.
The debate turned to race, where Bret Hulsey called him out on Republicans trying to put obstacles in the way of minorities voting and called Republican policies, at their core racist.
Mike Mikalsen, had this response(at the 1:40 mark of the podcast):The debate turned to race, where Bret Hulsey called him out on Republicans trying to put obstacles in the way of minorities voting and called Republican policies, at their core racist.
" For Those people, they couldnt have a checking account, they cant conduct daily life, they couldn't get on an airplane. What you would want us to believe, is there is this huge group of people, and they happen to be in your argument, African Americans, who apparently dont participate in society in any way, shape or form. when they go sign up for welfare they have to bring identification of some kind. When they sign up for services, or when they run their own lives in terms of checking accounts. You would have us believe that all of these folks who operate in society, and happen to be of one race, are incapable of having ID's"
Thanks to Mr. Mikalsen, for showing the true colors of the party. Why would the ONE example that he would use when discussing minorities and ID's be - Welfare? Could it be that is what the Republicans think when they think of African Americans? Could it be that they truly believe all African Americans are a drain on the system? Is that why the Republicans in Wisconsin have given up trying to create jobs and instead spend their time punishing the poor with waste of resources drug tests and telling them what foods they can and cant buy?
Did Mr. Mikalsen just show the Republicans hand?
PS: If Mr. Mikalsen had done any research at all, he would find that the majority of people on welfare are white, however they have stars upon thars like him so that is OK,
Looking at national numbers, most of the people who receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are actually white. U.S. Department of Agriculture data from 2013, which administers welfare, 40.2 percent of SNAP recipients are white, 25.7 percent are Black, 10.3 percent are Hispanic, 2.1 percent are Asian and 1.2 percent are Native American.
Nice catch. Can't stomach listening to this idiot, racism is as Republican as misogyny.
ReplyDeleteThe bottom line is that the SNAP program only costs the average person making $50,000 per year 10 cents a day. Those same SNAP benefits are plowed right back into the economy at the local level. The welfare that Mr. Mikalsen should be concerned about is the corporate welfare [2008-2011] costs us $223 billion while SNAP cost $17 billion. Apparently if your poor or black Nass and his staff believe you don't deserve to vote. They know if they let the poor and the black vote they'll be out of a job. In spite of the gerrymandered redistricting it will be very important that a candidate oppose each Republican and offer to work in behalf of the people not the political party in 2016!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Mikalsen's reply would be that that the percentages on Welfare are not in the same proportion as the percentages in the general population -- which he would insist on making a moral point, as though it had nothing to do with the percentages in poverty.
ReplyDeleteNow your turn, Jeff: Why do you believe minorities are incapable of obtaining free I.D.?
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think DMV branches have been closed, except away from inner cities, and open hours have been reduced, making it harder for working people to bus there? Why do you think DMV clerks are ordered NOT to volunteer information about how to get the ID free, so that (unless people walk in knowing how) they'll end up having to pay?
DeleteI dont know Blaska...I have a ID but I was unable to legally vote in the last election because of the new voting laws which don't allow instant registration at the poll. this was d/t me unexpectedly moving to a new district...perhaps if I weren't full time student working 4 12 hour shifts a week, I might have gotten all of that squared away during the extremely narrow window of opportunity i had before the election-maybe i could have gotten away with a mildly illegal vote in my old district, but maybe not...if i had had the time to get there somehow Thats what we're really talking about here-making it as difficult to vote as possible for poor people who work a lot and move often...and who just happen to be brown....because it certainly wasn't done to solve the non existent problem of voter fraud that Van Hollen tried so hard to find.
ReplyDeleteAw! "It's just too-oo HARD!"
DeleteFYI, there are 6 DMV offices in the city of Milwaukee alone. Seriously, poor people work a lot? Too busy working. Working and moving. Moving and working. If they only had the time to get there. Busy busy busy, working and moving. And they just happen to be brown!
Hey fat-blaska...who said I lived in Milwaukee? Have you ever headed over to DMV and stood in line for a hour or three? How about in Eagle River? I posted the schedule so you can see how easy it is for a person who works 12 hour shifts to get a new ID: Monday: 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
DeleteTuesday: Closed
Wednesday: 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Thursday: Closed
Friday: Closed
Saturday: Closed
Sunday: Closed
PS...Blaska...did you just wake up an anti democratic asshole with zero ingest in increasing public participation in voting or were you born that way?
ReplyDeleteSarge: judging from that picture of Blaska, the one thing of which he should never be accused is "zero ingest".
DeleteHe is a bit...barriatric.
