The Bureau of Labor Statistics is reporting 78 "mass layoff" events in Wisconsin in January. These are employers who are required to report any potential plant closing or other action that would result in the layoff of 25 percent of the workforce or 25 employees, whichever is greater. The article goes on to point out that the future doesn't look to bright, citing the forecast by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, which shows that Wisconsin is one of the only six states to be predicted to have a decline in economic activity over the next six months, as shown in this diagram:
Among the major layoffs reported in January were Sub-Zero in Madison with 100 layoffs; M&I/BMO Bank in Milwaukee with 57, Mayville Products with 130 and Colligan's Bakery in Stevens Point with 51 layoffs.
Only fives states in the U.S. reported more mass layoffs in January: California (342), New York (166), Pennsylvania (120), Florida (87) and North Carolina (84). Among other Midwestern states, Ohio reported 67 mass layoffs and Illinois reported 55.
Wisconsin also experienced the most initial claims for unemployment among Midwestern states in January with 6,014 new applications. Ohio was No. 2 in the region with 5,630, according to the BLS figures.
By hook or because he's a crook, Walker has to go, sooner rather than later.
The BLS is cooking the books for obvious reasons.
ReplyDeleteI suppose the state showing the same numbers is also a conspiracy, right?
DeleteCapper thank you for all your info throughout the years.Keep up the good work.Hopefully soon everyone will realize what many have known for many years Walker is a snake and only cares about his own political career.
ReplyDeleteI blame George Soros.
ReplyDeleteI have been in the collaborative education environment for too long to understand why Walker gets off on ripping on Illinois. Wouldn't some partnerships with Illinois be better considering that we share a Great Lake and a border? Competition, Competition, Competition!!
ReplyDelete.
I guess he is for divisiveness in our state and with other states. Recall defective leadership!
I got the governors newsletter regarding Quinns proposed budget for Illinois today. Its amazing to me that anybody would say their fiscal forcast is better than ours, it doesnt make sense.
ReplyDeleteIts sad that we are losing jobs, but tell me how running our state like the government of Greece will bring jobs into the state. Are we going to hear any ideas from your candidate? other than bring back collective bargaining?
Imagine- Why do I picture a coexhist bumper sticker on your car?
Just in case your head is so far in the sand that you dont receive this update:

Are you sure you want to go there? With the way that Walker closed prisons, cut millions from Medicaid, denied services to thousands of disabled adults and senior citizens, and still chased away tens of thousands of jobs? Are you really sure you want to go there?
DeleteAnd maybe you should look at what's coming down the pike before you answer. I wouldn't want you to again embarrass yourself.
So its your contention that we are worse off than Illinois? They have 8 billion in unpaid liabilities to start with.
ReplyDeleteComing down the pike? I guess if you mean a democratic governor and re-instatement of collective bargaining maybe I should be worried.
I didnt get much insight listening to you today, I would think if the smoking gun was in your dumpster we would have heard about it already.
I have the feeling that Walker will be behind bars and you will not gain insight on the Walkergate issue. Same with the untenable economic condition Walker has put the state in. Even as the state's economy continues falling down on our ears until we get rid of Walker, you will be telling yourself everything is fine.

ReplyDeleteI would think you would want to use your voice here to influence as many people as you can to join your effort. I try to engage you and your readers in some sort of discussion of ideas. But you dont seem interested in that. Maybe your effort is nothing more than trying to improve your benefits package at the end of the year. If thats the case you are smart to hide behind a couple of graphs and charts that help solidify your cause. But remember, one million votes wont be enough.
ReplyDeleteCorrection, 800 thousand votes. Mayne those out of state canvassers were counting all the blank lines on the sheets they handed is as well.
DeleteCapper - everytime I get a few bucks I send it off to Recall Walker. Can't wait to see him receive his due.
ReplyDeleteYou could always throw a few bucks this way too. ;^)
