But a Washington Post examination of securities filings shows the extent of Bain’s investment in firms that specialized in helping other companies move or expand operations overseas. While Bain was not the largest player in the outsourcing field, the private equity firm was involved early on, at a time when the departure of jobs from the United States was beginning to accelerate and new companies were emerging as handmaidens to this outflow of employment.In other words, just like Walker, Rmoney would sell us out in a heartbeat if he thought he could turn a profit.
Bain played several roles in helping these outsourcing companies, such as investing venture capital so they could grow and providing management and strategic business advice as they navigated this rapidly developing field.

Fuel is more expensive these days.
ReplyDeleteCompanies that have gone overseas are starting to lose on the time/ fuel combo; air freight is down, surface shipping is up.
The best thing Walker and Rmoney can do is to help these big companies, which thrive on low cost labor (among other activities), would be to import the workers.
Chinese migrant workers are already huge across most of Europe right now.
Chinese investment is interested in Wisconsin, too.
If only we could outsource the Rushpubliscum Party. A bunch of CCP politicians would be nowhere near as destructive to this country.

ReplyDeleteWisconsin and America has to focus on self-sufficiency. The deficit that is killing us is our TRADE deficit.
I'm guessing the Chinese investors will be very interesting in opening mines in Wisconsin and Walker will be interested in using Free Trade agreements to steamroll local opposition, environmental issues and even tribal treaty rights.
ReplyDeleteThose in the building trades who think this will bring them high paying jobs should be aware that Free Trade agreements permit China to bring in their own steel and labor.

Chinese steel was being imported into Duluth not too long ago, despite an active industry just a little distance up on the iron range.
DeleteDo you think that China has been able to artificially inflate the steel prices, by not only using human labor in questionable conditions, but also engaging in mining processes that are very ecologically troublesome?
China was on track for a modern global navy, too. Do you think their shipyards will be able to get all the steel they need?
Or, will Chinese investors be invited by Walker to have at the Penokee range, all in the name of jobs.
Well, Caterpillar will get some jobs and no doubt make some huge sales.
