Hmmm . . . it wasn't the GOP that blocked health care reform, but rather infighting among the moderate and not-so-moderate democrats. The GOP weren't allowed the opportunity to cover their ears because they were disallowed from the negotiating table.
The GOP was invited, but all they did was tantrum and yell no. They even flip-flopped on their own issues if it turned out the Dems agreed with them. The GOP is not interested in helping the people, they are only interested in sabotaging the country so that they can try to gain control again.
