James Daley - Really Bitter Partisan

Justice Ann Walsh Bradley won and her opponent James Daley did not take it well:

In what could be the worst congratulatory note in history, Mr. Daley wrote:

In a statement, Daley congratulated Bradley but said that, "Tonight we witnessed first-hand the power of incumbency, as liberal special interests band together to protect their candidate."

Hey Jimmy:

 

Maybe one should not hang out with bitter hate filled partisans if you have a problem with partisanship.  

By the way Jim, if you think liberal groups banded together to win an election, you have not been paying attention the last 5 years to elections in WI.  

Looks like Wisconsin really dodged a bullet of stupidity here.  Michael Gableman is more than enough of an intellectual lightweight serving that we did not need to add to that caucus.  

Why James Daley Won't Win WI Supreme Court Election

Besides the referendum on whether the Supreme Court Chief Justice should be privatized, Wisconsin also has an election for Supreme Court Justice on Tuesday.

The incumbent is Ann Walsh Bradley, who has repeatedly shown herself to be a fair and impartial justice. So much so that she had been physically accosted by David Prosser, a corporate-controlled injustice, who put Bradley in a choke hold because she would rather uphold the constitution rather than follow corporate orders.

Her opponent is James Daley, the corporate candidate. Daley is a circuit court judge from Rock County who is, well, not very good. He is such a poor judge that one of his radio ads is complaining that Walsh Bradley voted to overturn one of his rulings because he didn't do it correctly, a fact he admits in the ad.

Daley has also come out to say that his decisions would be based on a corporate/political basis rather than on the constitution and the law. That would explain why he has received thousands of dollars of in-kind contributions from the Republican Party of Wisconsin.

However, it is not Daley's incompetence and hyper-partisanship that will keep him off the Supreme Court.

There are three reasons why Daley won't be elected on Tuesday.

The first reason is that he is not receiving the big corporate dark money that other corporate candidates received. The dark money special interest groups have decided that to invest in their efforts to privatize the chief justice rather than increase their majority on the Supreme Court. This is not surprising since it is hard to unseat an incumbent and Daley, as noted above, is not a good candidate.

The second reason is that not even the radio squawkers like Mark Belling are supporting Daley. Without their backing, the low information voters won't be coming out in droves to support Daley.

But it is the third reason that is the real nail in the coffin for Daley's campaign. He is one of the judges that authorized the John Doe investigation into Scott Walker and his illegal collaboration with the dark money special interest groups:

One of the most startling things about the Supreme Court contest between Justice Ann Walsh Bradley and challenger James P. Daley, the chief judge in Rock County, is that neither would play a role in a deciding the most watched case pending before the high court: the secret John Doe probe into whether special interest groups illegally coordinated with the campaigns of Gov. Scott Walker and Republican legislators.

But the reasons each gives for not participating runs counter to expectations. Bradley, who is called a “liberal activist” by her opponent, says she can’t hear the case — which would determine whether the John Doe investigation can continue — because her son is a lawyer working for a law firm that represents the conservatives; Daley, whose campaign is funded in part by a donation from the Republican Party, is among the “liberal” defendants trying to pursue the investigation.

“I can’t participate in that because I am a defendant,” Daley says in a phone interview with Isthmus, declining to comment further. He notes a secrecy order prevents him from discussing whether he has had a change of heart or whether he still believes that Walker’s campaign might have violated election laws and that the investigation should proceed.

Let me repeat that.

Daley was one of the judges that authorized the John Doe investigation into Walker and his collaboration with the dark money special interest groups. That's the equivalence of treason to the right wing sheeples.

The only thing that could possibly be worse in the eyes of Wisconsin conservatives is if he signed the recall petition as well, which as brought on death threats for some people who have.

Whether Daley loses for the right or wrong reasons doesn't matter, as long as he loses. I urge all of my fellow Wisconsinites to join me in voting for Justice Ann Walsh Bradley on Tuesday, to make sure that happens.

Supreme Court Justice Or Supreme Corporate Injustice - The Choice Is Clear

Supreme Court Justice Ann Walsh Bradley recently came out with this commercial, which I like a lot:



It's really rather accurate, which is in itself is quite surprising for a campaign ad.

Walsh Bradley has consistently made her decisions based on the law and not on some political agenda.  Furthermore, Walsh Bradley has also shown herself to be willing to follow commonsense ethics, such as recusing herself from a pending case because her son works for one of the law firms involved.

In sharp contrast, her opponent, James Daley is the polar opposite.

Daley has already made it clear that he has a political agenda by taking $7,000 in in-kind contributions from the Republican Party of Wisconsin.  That a lot of help for what is supposed to be a nonpartisan seat.

On Sunday morning, Daley made it even clearer that he is running to be an activist on the bench and will make decisions based on the whims of his corporate masters instead of what the law and the constitution say:

State Supreme Court candidate James Daley is voicing a campaign theme that sounds like it might come from someone running for office in another branch of government.

That is, advocating for certain policies.

The Rock County circuit judge, who faces Justice Ann Walsh Bradley in the April 7 election, said on the "Upfront with Mike Gousha" show broacast Sunday:

"Her decisions have consistently been against common-sense reforms such as Act 10, which saved billions to the taxpayers of this state, and also her voter ID decision, which is a common-sense reform, a reform which most states have already made, and without it would leave the electoral system wide open for fraud and abuse."

In his interview, Daley also said that he didn't see the need for justices who were beholden to the special interests - like he would be - to have to recuse themselves from cases involving the same special interests, as long as the money was given "legally."  This is, of course, against the rulings of the United States Supreme Court, which warned of "disproportionate influence."

The choice couldn't be clearer.

We can reelect Ann Walsh Bradley and have a Supreme Court Justice or we can cede more control of our state to the corporate special interests by having yet another supreme court injustice in Daley.

A Really Bad Day For James Daley

Rock County Circuit Court Judge James Daley is the person that the corporate Republican right wing candidate to try to unseat Supreme Court Justice Ann Walsh Bradley.

With just weeks before the election, Daley finds himself having a very bad, horrible, no good day.

First, One Wisconsin Now came out with an eye-opening report on how Daley is receiving a lot of help from the Republican Party, even though this is supposed to be a non-partisan seat:

Toeing the party line for the state Republicans appears to be paying off for Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate James Daley, based on a review of his recently filed campaign finance reports. According to Daley's campaign finance reports the Republican Party of Wisconsin donated nearly $7,000 worth of staff and research services to Daley between January 1 and February 2 this year.

"James Daley has shown he's willing to set aside his own views to toe the Republican Party line as a candidate for the state high court," said One Wisconsin Now Executive Director Scot Ross. "While his willingness to flip flop on the issues seems to be paying off handsomely for his political campaign, it raises a huge red flag about his independence as a jurist."

Prior to snagging GOP funding for staff and research, Daley changed his position on legislative Republicans' fast track power grab to unseat the high court's current Chief Justice. In December Daley endorsed the GOP's 'Supreme Injustice' amendment to the state constitution to unseat the current court chief, but subsequently changed his stance to "no opinion" in early January. In comments to the media later in January, Daley was again supporting the GOP authored power grab.

Daley's campaign finance report on file with the Government Accountability Board disclosed an in-kind contribution of $2,500 on January 7 from the Republican Party of Wisconsin for services from America Rising, LLC, a GOP opposition research group. On January 31 Daley received another in-kind contribution of $4,375 from the state GOP for "wages - campaign staff."

Ross concluded, "The last thing we need on the state Supreme Court is more partisan politics. These latest revelations about James Daley set a disturbing precedent about his willingness to set aside his beliefs out of partisan political expediency."

And if being shown to be a partisan, corporate puppet wasn't bad enough, the Bradley campaign comes out with a devastating ad with right wing radio squawker Mark Belling calling Daley unfit for the Supreme Court because of Daley's decision to give a slap on the wrist to a man who had severely beaten a child.

Daley shows his depravity by trying to pretend that he is now concerned about the victim.  But not even Belling is buying it:

In an email Friday, Belling said Bradley used his comments accurately and he thinks the case in question disqualifies Daley for service on the Supreme Court.

[...]

"Unfortunately, Wisconsin conservatives couldn't come up with an alternative that meets even the lowest standard of acceptability," Belling said.

It cannot be emphasized enough how important this race is.

The corporations and special interests already control four of the seven seats on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.  If we ever want to stop and reverse the damage that these greedy bastards are doing to our state and to us, we have to stop ceding ground to them.

That means getting off our duffs and supporting Ann Walsh Bradley, as well as the good candidates in all elections from the Supreme Court to your local school board.
