Bused in from across the state, some 20,000 Latinos amassed at the
Capitol Thursday for a "Day Without Latinos" rally demanding to halt
bills that would limit local officials from issuing photo IDs and
withhold funding from so-called sanctuary cities.
20,000 Wisconsinites all gathering at the Capitol to protest bad Republican bills and let their voices be heard. Today was an important day, because the legislature set a goal of working today and not again the rest of the year(yes it is February 19th and they plan on calling it a year in the Capitol and collecting their full time pay).
One would think that politicians could be moved by the massive show of force, and one would be wrong. The Republicans had no problem passing their horrible bills including one that calls for fines of local governments who become sanctuary cities.
This was a very important bill to show that we hate immigrants and they are not welcome here(if you are scoring at home, Wisconsin has exactly ZERO sanctuary cities)!
Thanks guys for taking the time to accomplish absolutely nothing!
Was Scott Walker moved by the massive gathering of his constituents?
In a word NO.
Of course when Mr, Walker says this:
"There are protests all the time at the state Capitol. It doesn't affect
the economy one way or the other. And today, we're going to focus as we
do every day on how we help improve the business climate so we put more
people to work and provide more opportunity," Walker said.
We have to ignore the fact that Scott Walker has massively failed in creating jobs, we have to pretend that making sanctuary cities(of which we have none in WI) illegal will create jobs and we have to completely ignore the fact that it was not too long ago and Scott Walker had this to say:
Scott Walker: Well it’s interesting, look at the March to march numbers, March of last year to March of this year, there’s a reason why we had some challenges there, particularly early on. In March, April and May, people can remember what was happening, thank goodness its passed now, you can remember what was happening last Spring in our state’s Capitol. There was a lot of uncertainty, particularly for small businesses, I know having held listening sessions all around this state, small business owners more than anything want certainty, they didn’t see that around the Capitol last year so that was one of the biggest challenges out there. -
So sometimes protests hurt business and sometimes they do not effect the economy one way or the other. My guess is that in Republican terms, white people protesting hurts business but since no one on the right, pays attention to minorities the republicans do not even know that they are there.
That or Scott Walker just says what is most convenient at the time, and hopes that people forget what he said last week.
Of course Mr. Walker is lying, protests like this rarely happen. The last time was in 2011 when the people in WI protested ACT10:
While most politicians can go a full career without bringing thousands of protesters to your front door, Scott Walker is special in that he gets protested everywhere he goes. The thing is though, now that it is 6 years later, most of the protests at the Capitol look more like this:
The Solidarity singers have been consistent and for the most part sparse. When Scott Walker says "there are protests all the time" it is insulting to his constituents who took the time to come to Madison and take place in their Democratic Republic and it is also Mr. Walker's attempt to dehumanize anyone who disagrees with him.
It is a look and an action that is not very professional nor becoming of someone who has delusions of grandeur that they could one day be President of the United States.
Its time we all worked together to retire Mr. Walker.
Anyone paying attention, has seen that the right wing Blargh o sphere is all over the "Story" that the protesters outside of Mr. Walkers house recently were actually protesting his parents.
Where in the world would they get such a silly idea?
Of course what do we look at first? Scotts' kid calling a bunch of concerned citizens peacefully protesting, a "mob",? No that kind of ridiculous rhetoric is what he has grown up with.
Walker said during the interview that his parents, who are in their mid-70s, have lived at the house since he took office. He said Monday's demonstration didn't approach the "literally thousands of protesters" who gathered outside the house during the 2011 protests over Act 10.
Now I don't expect too much from the walker offspring, but to know where his parents live is kind of where I set the bar. Its unfortunate that Matt failed that one.
A few days ago, I pointed out some civic-minded folks in Seattle were planning on protesting Scott Walker when he went to their state for a fundraiser. And protest him they did, in the form of a Solidarity Singalong:
We wouldn't want Walker to get too homesick, y'know.
Some things never grow old. Things like telling Scott Walker to take his attacks on the workers, the women, the children, the poor and everyone else and stick them where the ultrasound wand don't shine.
Join the MLK County Labor Council and their PAC Committee along with union members, environmental and community activists, local businesses and others who plan to send a message to Scott Walker and his right-wing supporters that his divisive anti-labor, job-killing, environment-damaging policies aren’t welcome in Washington state. The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5 outside the Seattle Sheraton Hotel, 1400 6th Ave. Download the event flier, spread the word and make plans to attend, and bring your signs and banners!
On the behalf of all of Wisconsin, we thank you and commend, Seattle, for your common sense and your sense of morals.
If you "inappropriately" called in sick the day of to miss work, many were even disciplined!
In Racine, district spokeswoman Stacy Tapp also said that any of the 400
teachers absent on Thursday who called in sick inappropriately or took
an unannounced personal day would be disciplined.
Apparently that doesn't apply to every public worker in this state as this was just posted on facebook:
Tonette wants me to continue my tradition of taking Matt and Alex to opening day. Her dad would love it.
I guess unlike the public education teachers in our state, this Scott Walker guy does not have a very important job (completely paid for by the taxpayers) and so there is no need for him to head to the office or even plan ahead when he wants to have a day off.
I
hope all of the people who were so vile towards teachers for missing a
day to protest flood the Governors office telling him he needs to be at
his job and that his kids need to be in the classroom learning! Phone.

When Scott Walker "dropped the bomb" of ending collective bargaining rights as we know them, it sparked massive protests. Thousands of Wisconsinites, occupied the Capitol for days on end trying to stop one of the worst bills in our lifetimes(ACT 10) from becoming law. In the end it did, and the protestors headed back to their daily lives and jobs throughout WI.
Once the protestors left the Capitol back in the Walker administrations hands, and they were free to treat it the way they do everything they get control of - poorly.
Wisconsin state officials said Monday they may
consider legal action against a cleaning company blamed for damaging
marble floors in the Capitol last year.
Workers for Peterson Cleaning Inc. of Rockford, Ill., stained
about 100 marble stones in August before the work was halted, said Paula
Veltum, an official in the Department of Administration's facilities
management division.
State workers began polishing the stained marble, most of it on
the ground floor near the Rotunda, last week. It's expected to take up
to two months to restore, at an estimated cost of more than $16,000.
The state canceled Peterson's contract in December, citing poor
quality and lack of proper training for staff. Department spokeswoman
Stephanie Marquis said in an email the state is reviewing the contract
to dispute outstanding invoices and may consider legal action for
damages.
So instead of using state workers to do the job they are trained to do and have done, Walker hires and out of state private company.
Amateur Hour at the Capitol!!
Who would ever think its ok to hire an out of state firm to perform any services within the State Capitol? What company would stain 100 marble stones before they realized it was not working? I guess the "higher taxes" in Illinois is not causing the businesses there to miss out on any contracts when going up against WI companies. 100 definite stains on marble that will take two full months to restore only costs $16,000 to fix yet painters tape and landscaping costs somewhere between $200,000 and $7 Million? Nothing political there?
I am going to leave those attacks right there, we will see what the ACTUAL investigations lead too, and then bring the facts and findings back here for discussion! What I want to discuss is the attacks on the truth and actual history that the righties have done since Senator Kedzie told us he was so upset about his son getting attacked, his first act was to send a press release to Mark Belling.
In Fond Du Lac, a Republican candidate for state Senate, Rick Gudex,
says that his yard signs were thrown down on the ground, the vandals
turned his American flag upside-down, and they broke some landscaping
stones in his yard. Gudex says this was not the first attack on his
home. His son’s truck was egged in the driveway.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone when we hear about incidents like this.
After all, for the last two years in Madison Republican legislators and
staffers have been living in a state of siege in the Capitol. We’re
finally getting a measure of law and order under the new Capitol police
chief.
BUT we are not quite sure, there is a possibility that Senator King could be out staling Gudex and stealing his signs. Since there is some doubt maybe we should have re-elected Randy Hopper after all!
But it probably doesn’t help the calls for civility when the spokesman
for the Democratic Party in Wisconsin, Graeme Zielinski, is on Twitter
accusing Republicans of not being Christians because they disagree with
him. Holy McCarthyism, Graeme.
Nor does it help when Vice President Joe Biden, at a nationally
televised debate with Wisconsin’s own Congressman Paul Ryan, thinks
being rude, obnoxious, and even inappropriately giggly somehow makes him
a “winner.” Turns out he was a “winner” like Charlie Sheen, but that
didn’t stop so many of the talking heads of the political left from
cheering on the juvenile delinquent behavior.
Other than that, Obama himself has done so much to poison the political
discourse in this country, and his party has followed his lead.
Not so much! That’s not to say that Republicans are perfectly innocent in this
melodrama (although I’m waiting for the first angry mob of taxpayers to
climb through the Capitol windows).
As with any problem, we can not end it unless we acknowledge it. The people who have been paying attention understand where the problem is coming from. Republican Thugs are responsible for a vast majority of the violent incidences in scott walker's Wisconsin(from Jeffrey Radle, to Linda Lorino, to Phil Dziki, to Scott Fitzgerald the instances are too numerous to recount). While our friends on the right refuse to ever acknowledge any of these incidents, they seem to even enjoy when an incident affects someone on the right!
A perfect example happened recently where Wisconsin Democratic chairman Mike Tate called upon the Wisconsin RNC chair(whoever that is), to issue a joint press release condemning all attacks on anyone based on politics. The unknown RNC chair originally agreed to it then flip flopped and declined. Wonder why?
From Mike Tate:
Earlier today I called my counter part at the
RPW to ask if he would do a joint statement with me decrying the
violence and other criminal acts that have occurred to people displaying
Obama and Romney signs. Clearly we both deplore these terrible acts and
everyone has the right to display support for their candidate of choice
without fear. He initially agreed, then called back to say they didn't
want to do a joint statement. I told him I felt it was a real missed
opportunity for us to demonstrate some civility. Sadly they chose a
different path and I find it symbolic of how the leaders in the
Republican Party behave today.
Now that we have seen how there is violence on both sides, but heavily weighted towards the right, and that when violence is perpetrated towards someone on the right, the right wing blargosphere just cant blame the left enough! You can see the smile on their face when the story hits the wire!
However, let us get to the heart of the matter. While we have always been divided politically since the birth of the nation we have a split here in Wisconsin that goes beyond that. The one thing about it, and how to fix it is to acknowledge it and find out where it started. Here we acknowledge the problem, and now here is where it all started:
The Cure:
If you are thinking of stealing a sign and/or abusing someone of the opposite party, STOP! Channel that anger/energy and write a LTE to your favorite candidate, If you have stolen a sign put it back.
However, most importantly, VOTE on NOVEMBER 6th!!!
