We Need To Do Our Research!

By Jeff Simpson

When you allow the smartest among us, to do research,we have incredible breakthroughs and people(ie....you, me, our friends, family and neighbors) actually are able to beat diseases and live.

As seen on 60 minutes last night. researchers at Duke University, have started treating aggressive brain cancer with a version of the polio virus, and treating it successfully!

When we elect the people to govern us who are NOT the smartest among us, this is what we get:

In an interview last week, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker fired a shot across the bow of academe. Defending his proposal to cut $300 million over the next two years from the University of Wisconsin (UW) System, Walker opined, “Maybe it’s time for faculty and staff to start thinking about teaching more classes and doing more work.”
Apparently the researchers who are busy in the lab doing research and saving lives and eradicating disease are not working.   I wonder what Scott Walker thinks a full day of work consists of?

Or this:

In the wake of Republican victories at the polls last Tuesday, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos opened another chapter in a contentious relationship with the University of Wisconsin System.
Vos said he wants university research to be geared toward helping the state's economy, "not on ancient mating habits of whatever."

Robin Vos will never be accused of understanding any topic he speaks to, but it is interesting that he speaks to helping the economy when research brings in a billion dollars a year and Robin Vos brings in failed marriages, forced ultrasounds and low wages.

Gerrymandered districts or not, can we please STOP electing stupid people?

The Stupid Vote

By Jeff Simpson

Great column by Damon Linker from The Week:

That’s Exhibit B: Walker’s effort to cut $300 million from the budget for the University of Wisconsin system — coincidentally at the precise moment he’s gearing up to compete in the notoriously far-right GOP Iowa caucuses.

I have no idea if Walker actually believes professors are parasites on the Wisconsin state budget — or if he’s merely ingratiating himself to those who do. What matters is that in taking this stance he’s allied himself with the forces in American society that consider Advanced Placement history courses to be a problem rather than a plus, and who know so little about university life that they actually think professors are coddled wards of the state instead of richly educated researchers and teachers who work endless hours for modest pay and (thanks in part to slanderous statements by public figures like Scott Walker) precious little social esteem.

Is this really what America needs now — a scramble to nail down the stupid vote?

Stupidity on Display

New Rule - if you have as a role model Steven Crowder or James O'Keefe, you are a threat to society!

2 people are vying for dumb ass of the day, and one just happens to be in Beloit, WI

The first incident is in Virginia:

A man was arrested at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Strasburg, Va., Wednesday, according to the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office.
Christopher Garret Johnson, 33, walked into the school with a 4-foot long two-by-four labeled “High Powered Rifle” about 11:40 a.m., the sheriff’s office said.
He was met by school staff, then detained by a sheriff’s school resource officer. He was arrested and taken into custody without incident.
No one was injured.
The man was apparently trying to make a point about security at the school five days after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., in which a man shot and killed 20 children and six adults before killing himself.
"He made general statements about school safety and safety awareness," a Shenandoah County officer said. "But the reality was, it was disruptive."

The second comes courtesy of Beloit, WI:

 BELOIT, Wis. -
Beloit police arrested a man who posed as an intruder trying to enter a Beloit elementary school Tuesday, the Beloit School District said.
In the wake of the Connecticut mass shooting, a local citizen decided to test school security by trying to enter a side entrance at Converse Elementary School at 1602 Townline Ave., according to a Beloit School District news release.
Building doors are locked at all Beloit School District buildings, including front entrances, which are monitored, according to school officials.
A teacher at the scene reported seeing a camouflage-garbed man at a side entrance of the primary school (grades K-3) who was trying to forcibly open the doors, according to the news release.

If you pose as an intruder  - YOU ARE AN INTRUDER!   I hope these idiots get arrested and if you want to know who should NOT own guns - here are two prime examples!

Look what Fox news has wrought on our country!
