The Cayman Debate

There are two sides to the whole Cayman Islands money laundering debate.

The first side if the Mitt Romney side where it is perfectly acceptable to hide your millions there so you can avoid paying taxes and contributing your fair share to society.   As Paul Abrams points out, while Mitt is not really welcome anywhere overseas, his money sure is:
Mitt Romney (R-MA) seems to have succeeded in becoming persona non grata overseas, but his money is welcome everywhere.

That Romney has docked hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars in foreign tax accounts whose only purpose is to hide it from paying taxes and yet has the chutzpah to run for President of the United States while trashing those who pay no income taxes is shocking enough. But, Lindsey Graham (R-SC) thinks this is just peachy dandy. And, Chris Christie (R-NJ) aspires to have his money hiding in the Cayman Islands' someday.

While Mitt desperately aspires to be President of this great country, this country is not great enough for Mr. Rmoney to have all of his money accounted for here.  Mitt has so much love for the Cayman's, he even likes to party on yachts that fly the Cayman's flag!

Then there is the other side of the debate, the one Paul Ryan (R- Wall St.) espouses.   The one that says "the Cayman's is just a place to hide your money"!

Here are the two sides who disagree on tax shelters duking it out in CBS:

Or not!

Keep in mind that Mitt Romney has not held a job since 1999 and still made $20 million + last year and paid a meager less than 14% in taxes.  How much did you pay?

Ann Hates Dogs Too!

We have covered the story of how Mitt abused the family dog Seamus already, but Ann Romney can not leave well enough alone and doubled down on the story!

I guess the dog loved being strapped to the top of the roof while he luggage was in the car.   So much so he ran away never to be heard from again!   Why does Ann Romney remind me of Leona Helmsly?

In Ann's defense, when you live in a house like this(actual Rmoney compoun), no wonder the dog wanted on the roof, no where for him to run!

The Wisconsin Humane society begs to differ!!!!

Does Anyone Recognize Tommy Anymore? NO!

Who is this guy? He is definitely NOT the same Tommy G. Thompson that was Governor of Wisconsin in the 1990's!

Please help Tammy Baldwin, defeat this stranger!

Why won't Tommy release his tax returns? Because he is not smart enough to actually do them correctly!

Mitt's Hypocrisy is Astonishing!

When Paul Ryan (R- Ayn Rand) was vetted for the Vice presidential pick, Mitt demanded many years of tax returns.... Yet Mitt refuses to release his own tax returns to the American People! Besides we know it does not matter because if (God Forbid) the Mitt/Twit ticket wins and they enact the Ryan plan, Mitt will pay less than 1% in taxes. Not a bad gig!

Do You Hear What I Hear??

Which is absolutely NOTHING anymore about Condi Rice Being Mitt's Vice President.

Looks like Mitt just used Condi as a distraction to try and change the subject from his refusal to release his tax returns.   Who could have possibly guessed that

Luckily it did not work

Shame on the Romney Campaign for using Condi like that.  Double shame on any reporter or 'news" organization who actually bought in to this story and helped advance it!

Tax Return Hypocrisy

There is no limits to republican hypocrisy and no issue they will NOT politicize.  The latest issue is tax returns:

Let's look at some things we know about tax returns and politicians:

We know that George Romney(Mitts dad) was the first politician to release multiple years tax returns because  “One year could be a fluke, perhaps done for show".

We know that when Mitt was desperate to be John McCain's running mate he gave the Senator over 23 years of tax returns!

We know that Mitt will NOT release his tax returns to the general public:

We know that Ann Romney says they have given us all of the info "that you people need to know".

We also know that Washington DC resident,  Eric Hovde has no interest in releasing his tax returns

We know that the republicans think that releasing tax returns is a non issue and has nothing to do with the upcoming election.

NOW, thanks to some very good reporting from Jason Rae, we know that when it comes to their opponents, tax returns are a very significant issue.

From June 27 to July 16, 2012, the Republican Party of Wisconsin, through its political director Jonathan Wetzel, filed an open records request with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue for the tax returns of 26 Democratic candidates for the Assembly. The requests varied from ten years worth of filings to just one year’s return.

You see, unlike federal tax returns, state tax returns are subject to open records.  It’s just one more aspect of the Wisconsin tradition of transparency in government that has been under assault by Governor Walker and the GOP led legislature in the last year and a half.  But don’t get me wrong, even if they don’t like the transparency, they will use it when it benefits them.
....

I just don’t understand how they can deny releasing their own returns saying it shouldn’t matter and that it’s an attempt to, as a Hovde spokesman said, “incite class warfare,” and yet go and seek tax returns from other candidates.

Here again we have Republicans talking out of both sides of their mouth. It is actually making me wonder what Tommy, Mark, Eric and Jeff are all hiding if they refuse to release theirs? Its classic do as we say, not as we do.

Hypocrisy, thy name is Republican.

Romney Edits Reality!

Here is the real quote from President Obama

If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be ‘cause I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.

Let me tell you something. There are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that.

Yet as Greg Sargent Points out, Romney is out with a HEAVILY edited video. After the reality of who Mitt is as a person started to hit home, the republicans only chance is to alter reality.  Here is their attempt and its failing!

As for what President Obama said, not only is he correct, he is not the first person to say so! Benjamin Franklin understood it at the birth of our Constitutionally limited democratic republic:

"We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately." Benjamin Franklin at the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
 Abe Lincoln echoed Franklin:

"Most governments have been based, practically, on the denial of equal rights of men, as I have, in part, stated them ours began, by affirming those rights. They said, some men are too ignorant, and vicious, to share in government. Possibly so, said we; and, by your system, you would always keep them ignorant, and vicious. We proposed to give all a chance; and we expected the weak to grow stronger, the ignorant, wiser; and all better, and happier together."

Thom Hartmann ties it all up nicely here:

Q. What is the Difference Between Sarah Palin and Paul Ryan?

A.   Lipstick AND an invite to the republican national convention.

It seems that this year,  Sarah Palin is NOT welcome there

It is interesting the way the republican party works.  Everyone knows that Mitt Rmoney has been very very desperate to be president for the past eight years.  When Mitt lost out to John McCain he figured his next best path to power was as Vice President.  Mitt then gave John McCain 23 years of tax returns(I guess mitt respects John McCain more than he does the rest of the American people).

McCain then looked at them and promptly picked Sarah Palin!

Let's repeat that slower this time so it sinks in:

John McCain then looked at Mitt Romney's 23 years of tax returns and promptly picked Sarah Palin to be his Vice-President!

"Oh, come on, because we thought that Sarah Palin was the better candidate," John McCain said

Four short years ago, Sarah Palin was the absolute second best person in America to represent the republican party on the top of the ticket, and four years later, now she is not even welcome at the republican convention?  She was a Game Changer!

Four years ago, mitt was soundly rejected not once but twice by the republican party and now they want us to believe, that they believe that he is THE best person to be the leader of the free world in these troubled economic times?

Did they not learn their lesson five years ago?  Do they care so much about their own parties control and power that they are willing to put someone like this in charge of the United States?   After the McCain/Palin fiasco, how would they not have come up with someone much more qualified and intelligent than someone whose defining adjective is as an etch-a-sketch!

Maybe this year, Paul Ryan (R-Wall St.) will be the game changer!

Romney is Running from his Returns!

"Mitt Romney says he doesn't manage his own money, doesn't know where his money is. THIS is the guy to manage the economy!" David Letterman
video platform video management video solutions video player So Mitt feels that John McCain deserves information that no one else in America does? Or is he just that desperate to be in the White House? When will America demand more out of their political candidates besides just the letter you want after their name?
