Does Memorial Day Mean Anything Any More?

Memorial Day is the day when we, as a nation, reflect and pay honor to the brave men and women who sacrificed their very lives in service to the country.  But does Memorial Day mean anything any more, especially this year?

I'm not talking about just the people who only see the holiday as a three day weekend and the kickoff to the summer season.  I'm talking about the country as a whole.

The United States has a long history of fighting.  Not just fighting, but fighting tyranny and fascism.  Our country was born in war as our founding fathers wrested freedom from the grip of King George and Britian.

The Civil War was fought because some people though they had an inherent right to own other people just because the color of their skin was different.

World War III was fought because one madman and his cultish followers thought he'd play God and determined that only the white kind of people should be allowed to live.  Boy, doesn't that sound familiar?

But Memorial Day 2025 hits totally different and wrong.  When we should be honoring those who gave their lives to fight fascism and for our freedom, too many people are dishonoring their memories and pissing on their graves.  

Instead of being thankful for their sacrifice, too many people are distrespecting them by following a fascist who is doing the same damn thing these heroes had fought against.  It's just a disgrace all around.

My granduncle fought and died on Iwo Jima during WWII fighting Nazis and their fascist allies.  I will not dishonor him by going along with today's fascistts.  What will you do?

Vermont Dairy farmers who have lost migrant employees to ICE or who have lost employees who have moved away to avoid confrontations with ICE are offering dairy jobs to white South African refugee farmers...but no takers yet. 

We Stand In Solidarity With Meriter Nurses

The nurses union at Madison's Meriter Hospital, SEIU Wisconsin, gave notice that they will go on a five day strike starting May 27 due to a breakdown in negotiations.

Nurses at Madison’s Meriter hospital plan to walk off the job for five days starting Tuesday, May 27, after negotiations on a new union contract ended Monday night without an agreement.

The hospital management and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Wisconsin, which represents about 950 nurses at the hospital, are divided over pay, security provisions and whether the hospital should commit to specific ratios of how many patients are under a nurse’s care.

“Nurses have been clear with Meriter management that we will strike for patient and staff safety, improved compensation to retain nurses, and staffing solutions that include the voices of bedside nurses who care for patients day in and day out,” declared a union statement issued Tuesday morning. “Meriter is still not listening to the nurses.”

If the strike goes forward, it is scheduled to last for five days, with union members returning on Sunday, June 1.

It should be noted that the management of Meriter tried to bullshit the public by claiming that they had another negotiations date set for May 26, which is Memorial Day.  The union is denying that they ever agreed to that date.

Until a contract is ratified, we stand in solidarity with the nurses at Meriter. People's lives are at stake, and not just those of the patients, and management shouldn't be playing games right now.

US Representaive McIver ‘slammed her forearms’ into immigration officers according to federal charges

The Justice Department accused Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.) of having “slammed her forearms” into immigration officers during a scuffle outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center as officers attempted to arrest Newark’s mayor.

The criminal complaint, made public Tuesday, provides the most detailed picture yet of why federal prosecutors believe McIver’s actions amount to the federal crime of assaulting federal law enforcement, a felony charge.

The document repeatedly accuses McIver of attacking agents with her forearms. The filing includes a number of still images showing the New Jersey lawmaker’s arms pushed against the back of a masked officer.

 

So given the photo, do you think that either of those two kevlared and MASKED men would even notice if that little lady bumped into them with her forearms? And of course there is last week's accusation that she body slammed someone...like I would find that hard to believe that she could body slam a trained law enforcement officer who would be towering over her. 

So clearly, this is a political hit job and not an actual case for prosecution.

Grothman Reconfirms His Bigotry, Racism

 

During the RPW and Nazi convention this past weekend, Glenn  "The Slob" Grothman took the time to reconfirm the fact that after all these years, he is still a bigot and a racisit:

U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman, R-Glenbeulah, today praised President Donald Trump’s executive orders to eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion, claiming some of the wealthiest groups come from outside Europe and that shows the United States isn’t a “racist country.” 

“If anybody complains about it or says America’s a racist country, you can point out that almost all the wealthiest subgroups in this country are people who did not come from Europe,” Grothman said at the state GOP convention. 

He said people from India represent the wealthiest group and named several other nationalities, adding: “Cubans do very well, West Africans do very well.”

Grothman did not explain how these groups are doing so well when they are being deported to concentration camps in El Salvador and other countries.  

Reports indicate that Grothman was seen spending the rest of the weekend roaming from one courtesy room to the next, stuffing his face and his pockets with free brats.

Tiffany Overestimates His Popularity

From this past weekend's RPW convention was Toxic Tom Tiffany unofficially kicking off his gubernatorial campaign.  During his speech, Tiffany praised himself to be quite the vote getter:

Tiffany said he’s a proven vote-getter in rural areas as he’s racked up wins in northern Wisconsin’s 7th CD. That includes Hudson, which is on the western edge of his district. He called the community — home to a number of Minnesota transplants — as suburban as any community in the state. Tiffany said he won the city last fall and believes he can turn out the voters that a Republican needs in order to win statewide.

Tiffany has forgotten that that part of Wisconsin used to belong to Dave Obey.  That was his turf until he chose not to run again.

Then, after Sean Duffy was elected, the GOP quickly gerrymandered the state so that Duffy wasn't a one and done elected official for that district.

If the state supreme court does decide to look at the congressional maps and if they do decide to correct them, depending on how the new maps look, Tiffany could be in big trouble.  Perhaps that's why he's so desperate to find a new job.

Schimming Tells Jokes At RPW Convention

The Republican Party of Wisconsin had their state convention this weekend and it was every bit as ridiculous as you might have expected.

For example, RPW Chair Brian Schimming was telling jokes at the convention:

Schimming praised the party for “record election integrity.” He claimed Trump won Wisconsin because of Republicans’ push for early voting. 

“We had one of the biggest election integrity, secure the vote operations in the country because of you.” 

Yeah, right. This is a guy who was tied up in all the election fraud committed by Dementia Donny and his crime syndicate in the 2020 elections.  What does he know of election integrity?

Joe Biden is History, Let Him Go. Dems, we want to see your plan for 2026 and on!

 Jake Tapper's new book on the Biden decline, Beto O'Rouke's screaming about Biden and the 2024 election, and now Trump's piling on about hapless Joe is a big big waste of time.

Nothing wrong with the Dems doing a postmortem on 2024 but that should be done behind closed doors and they should come out fighting with a plan for 2026 and beyond.

Now all they're doing is looking like fools and giving Trump cover...as the Biden saga takes up all of the news cycles and Trump continues to trash the nation. 

Focus on Trump. Focus on 2026. Joe Biden is history.

Walmart Forces Trump To Admit He Lied About Tariffs.

 Recently Walmart announced that they would have to implement price increases as tariffs on the products that they import go into effect. Yes, precisely what anyone with an ounce of economics knowledge knew was going to happen despite Donold Trumps insistence that China would be paying the tariffs.

But in the face of reality, Trump is telling Walmart to eat the tariffs. Well, despite his contention that they can afford to do so, this is an admission that he has been lying to us all along. American importers and eventually American consumers will pay the tariffs...not foreign companies or foreign governments.

Yet not a single Republican is going to call him out on it.

Egg On His Face, He's A Big Disgrace!

 For months, we had to endure the whining about the price of eggs, among other things. Then for weeks, we had to contend with the false claims that the Orange Felon lowered the price of eggs. Well, The Orange Felon's great eggscapade isn't all that it cracked up to be. Egg prices are going back up and the Orange Felon has no one to blame but himself:

First it was the avian flu outbreak, and now it is tariffs that are causing egg prices to rise. 

Vital Farms Inc, which bills itself as the top U.S. brand of pasture-raised eggs, said Thursday that while it was relatively insulated from the tariffs announced by the Trump administration, it won’t be totally immune. 

The tariffs will raise costs by increasing prices of various commodities, including steel, and could also affect the purchasing behavior of its customers, the company said. 

“We’ve announced to our retailer partners a modest, low-double-digit percentage-price increase for our shell-egg products that will go into effect this month,” Chief Executive Russell Diez-Canseco said, according to a FactSet transcript of the company’s earnings call with analysts.

In other words, The Orange Felon just FAFOed himself! He lost a talking point and it's all his own damn fault! It is to laugh! The yolk's on him!

Headlines: Trade War Ends...it's a ninety day delay for Chinese tariffs...that's a cease fire, not an end

 There are all kinds of stories running around the various media about how the tariffs with China have been reduced, how Trump blinked, how the trade war has ended. Trump did blink but it is a trade war that he started and it is inevitable that he will lose it. But once again he has proven to be a mad dog inconsistent non-leader. Did he make China wince? Not a moment. They have just been quietly waiting in Beijing for Trump to implode. 

The only people hurt here are the small businesses in the US, the ones that Trump says he is trying to help, as they get whipsawed back and forth not knowing what their costs are going to be, can they resource their products to other nations or internally, and can they sell their products at increased prices.

But this isn't an end to the trade war...this is just a cease fire.

 Okay? Does this make any sense to you? It will be very difficult to lower prescription drug prices no matter what the markup might currently be...if drug costs are artificially increased by random tariffs. Why doesn't anyone in the White House understand this? and why isn't there any push back from the GOP members of Congress? Donold Trump is clearly walking out the dementia plank...
