Why Do They Need To Ask?

Ol' Broad is a conservative blogger who has an old, forwarded email up as a post, which is supposed to compare and contrast Democrats and Republicans. It's pretty much what you would expect, filled with the usual right wing paranoid hyperbole and general silliness, but one part stood out to me:
If a Republican is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.

If a Democrat is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.
I lost count, but how many anti-gay Republican politicians turned out to be gay lately? Perhaps they're quiet because they know it could cost them their jobs and their prestige with other Republicans.

But the bigger question is this: Why would any homosexual, Republican or Democrat, have to demand respect? What is wrong with us as a society that we still can't respect people without them having to fight for even a level playing field?

Here She Comes

Ol' Broad, aka Kate, and I have a strange friendship. She is extremely conservative, while I am a bit left of center, but we have always managed to have civil conversations, even when she is way wrong on a subject (which is most of the time).

Unable to keep up with my quick and sharp wit and sense of humor, she tends to resort to threaten me with coming up here to Milwaukee in late August to smack me around. I've tended to just role my eyes and think, "Yeah, whatever." I guess I should start taking her more seriously now.

Just on the off hand chance she was serious, I've had my people watching her. They have sent me advanced warning that Kate got her husband to agree to take her up here and that they are underway. They also gave me visual proof:

I wonder which August she meant.

Another Sad Day For Blogging

When I was first unleashed on the Cheddarsphere by Jay Bullock at folkbum's rambles and rants, one of the first bloggers that stood by my cyberside was Tim Rock, of The Other Side of my Mouth.
Ever since then, I became more confident, knowing that I had a "big brother" out there in the Sphere.

So it saddens me to say that like our mutual friend, Billiam, Tim has decided to hang up the keyboard to some degree. Tim has shut down his blog and has told me that he is done blogging, at least for now. I know Tim is a major baseball fan, and the one ray of hope is that he has left his baseball related blog still up.

I do sincerely hope he still comes to visit, for I will miss his witticism and biting sarcasm.

On the other end of the sphere, Ol' Broad is going into what could best be described as semi-retirement. She hasn't ruled out blogging completely, but has said that she will be devoting more of her time to other directions.

Now, Ol' Broad is normally wrong about most things. She is one of the right wing bloggers that is taking the Obama presidency to irrational extremes, and she can often get quite offensive in her postings. She is a Bible-thumping, gun-loving, equality-hating right winger, but she is also a friend. We have more than our share of verbal tussles and spitting matches, but I can't think of one occasion that our disagreements crossed the line of civility and mutual respect.

That is something that is lacking in large parts of the Sphere, from both sides, and something else I will be missing.

I wish both of these friends the best in what they do and where their lives may take them. And I hope that they know they are always welcome at any of my castles. (There are more than you know.)

Until such time that Tim comes back, I will do my best to try to pick up the slack. And until Kate (Ol' Broad) comes back, well, the right isn't safe from me.

On A Light Note...

I received the following email from my dad. Something about it made me think of my friend Kate, aka Ol' Broad:

"WHERE is my SUNDAY paper?!" The irate customer calling the newspaper office loudly demanded, wanting to know where her Sunday edition was.

"Madam", said the newspaper employee,"today is Saturday. The Sunday paper is not delivered until tomorrow, on Sunday."

There was quite a long pause on the other end of the phone, followed by a ray of recognition as she was heard to mutter,

"Well, crap... so that's why no one was at church today".

Satan Claus

I swear these people must be the result of generations of inbreeding or something:
