Fearful 78 Year Old Woman Second Amendments Herself

A 78 year old woman in Burlington, Wisconsin got scared and instead of calling for help, she helped herself to a loaded handgun. Well, Dirty Mary she ain't:

A 78-year-old Burlington woman accidentally shot herself Friday after arming herself with a handgun when she became afraid, according to the Racine County Sheriff's Office.

The woman was walking in her house with the gun when she dropped it to the floor, causing it to discharge upward and wounding her in the abdomen, according to news release from the sheriff's office.

The woman was taken to a hospital, according to the release, which did not report the woman's condition.

The sheriff's office reminds people be extra cautious when handling any firearm.

The NRA likes to say that guns are the great equalizer and in a way they are correct. Whether it's a 78 year old woman, a three year old kid or a 20 year old young man, give them a gun and you just know someone is going to get hurt and/or killed.

Walker Shoots His Campaign In The Foot

On Sunday, Sergio Valencia del Toro was upset by an argument with his fiancee. He chose to deal with his pain and anger by going to a community setting with two hand guns and opening fire, killing three people - including an 11 year old girl - before taking his own life:

Police said Wednesday that Jonathan Stoffel of Neenah was shot seven times Sunday on the Fox Cities Trestle Trail bridge, and his 11-year-old daughter was shot three times. A third victim, Adam Bentdahl of Appleton, was shot once, according to preliminary autopsy results.

Meanwhile, Post-Crescent Media learned that the shooter, Sergio Valencia del Toro of Menasha, had been on the bridge at least 45 minutes before opening fire.

Valencia del Toro used a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol to kill the victims, all of whom died on the bridge, police said.

Stoffel's wife, Erin, the fourth person shot by Valencia del Toro, suffered three gunshot wounds during the shooting spree.

So how did Walker respond to this senseless violence in his own state?

Well, he didn't rush to console the survivors and the families of the deceased. Nor did he condemn the senseless violence made easier by the ridiculously availability of guns.

Nope.

What Walker did do was wait a couple of days and then go to Facebook to run a pro-Second Amendment petition in order to grow his mailing list:

When one follows the link, it takes one to Walker's campaign page with the most inane gibberish one might see:

The only thing that makes this laughable is that his campaign team forgot to include the actual petition they want people to sign.

What this does is make it clear that he represents the special interests and not the people. And he would do the same as president.

With the help of Home Depot, we have a new folklore starting- Johnny Assaultrifle. 

On Saturday, May 31, over 150 open carry enthusiasts plan to convene at a Home Depot in the Fort Worth suburb of North Richland Hills, Texas.
The event has been billed by organizers Open Carry Tarrant County as “the largest open carry to date” in an area that has lately been a focal point for gun rights campaigners. Raffle prizes on offer include a black powder revolver and an AR 15 rifle.
Home Depot’s corporate communications director said the $80 billion (revenues) store chain has no plans to prevent the rally from taking place.

“Our feeling is that ultimately, the voters direct the laws on gun carry issues, so we defer to the prevailing ordinances in states and communities,” said Stephen Holmes. “Therefore, customers who are legally permitted to carry firearms are allowed to do so when entering our stores, provided the firearms are carried in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.”

In terms of being a constitutional scholar, by far I'm no Ed Fallone. However I've got a feeling the video game makers have better legal standing than the assault weapons manufacturers and dealers.

It's Not Being Pro-Second Amendment, It's Being Anti-First Amendment

There's a very interesting and insightful article at Salon.com regarding those nutters that feel the need to bring guns to a debate. The highlight of it:

These and other similar examples are accurately summarized with the same language federal law employs to describe domestic terrorism. Generating maximum media attention, the weapons-brandishing displays are "intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population." Yes, the gun has been transformed from a sport and self-defense device into a tool of mass bullying. Like the noose in the Jim Crow South, its symbolic message is clear: If you dare engage in the democratic process, you risk bodily harm.

With that implicit threat, the incessant arguments about gun ownership have been supplanted by a more significant debate over which should take precedence: The Constitution's First or Second Amendment?

Based on America's history, the Founders' answer to that question clearly lies in the Bill of Rights' deliberate sequencing.

The First Amendment ethos guarantees people -- whatever their politics -- a fundamental right to participate in their democracy without concern for physical retribution. It is the primary amendment because America was first and foremost created not as a gun-owners' haven, but as a place to shelter citizens from oppression.

These people are the same ones that are having a hard time accepting the reality that the majority have rejected their control over the last several elections. They also cannot present a logical, rational or compelling argument against health care reform, so they will try to bully us around to reach their goals.

It says more about them than the topic at hand.
