Thomas Paine - Common Sense

Thomas Paine has been my hero ever since I read "Thomas Paine and the Promise of America, by Harvey Kaye"(which I highly recommend to everyone) where I learned how important Paine was to the Founding of our country.

Then, when the billionaire sponsored tea party came into being, they whored out the memory of Thomas Paine, with some Bozo named Bob.   Paine spent his life in America fighting the tories and they hated him!    To think that he would have approved anything the modern day "tea party" believed in, shows that they had no idea what he was saying in his pamphlet - "Common Sense".

Here is Thomas Paine today setting the record straight!   H/T The Thomas Paine Society!

Audacious Visions!

We recently covered a great 6 minute speech by Nick Hanauer on how to revive our ailing economy.  The fixes are out there, easy to do, and usually only stopped because they do not align with republican donors or might actually give success to President Obama.  Now Dr. Tyson gives us another helpful fix to our economy.

Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson delivers an impassioned plea to the U.S. Congress to hoist America from its economic lethargy by boldly reinvesting in a robust space program. Spread the word: #Penny4NASA

Huzzah For Jarosh!

Just as I was starting to lose hope, there is news of at least one sane elected official in this state, St. Francis Alderman Ted Jarosh:
An alderman who hunts and owns guns plans to seek an ordinance to limit the open carrying of firearms in the city.

Ted Jarosh, who describes himself as a strong defender of the right to own and legally carry guns, said last week he will ask the city attorney Tuesday whether the city could classify certain acts of so-called open carry as disturbing the peace.

[...]

Jarosh, 52, a nine-year alderman and president of Kyle Central Credit Union in South Milwaukee, said he wants to prohibit the open carry of guns when there is no apparent purpose for doing so.

"Carrying a firearm just to incite the public or prove that you have the right to do it, that is a misuse of the law," Jarosh said.

What a breath of fresh air, especially after the miasma spewed from Van Hollen, who only wears a kilt to facilitate his habit of cranial-rectum insertions.

Unfortunately, this will only set off another round of foaming at the mouth of the fearful and fear-monger right wingers.
