Name That Tool

For those that are new, or might have just forgotten, 2008 was a crappy year for the northern castle. It started in the end of February, when the record snowfalls took out the royal garage. Then it took half the year to get the garage repaired and usable, as well as my vehicle and the riding mower. In the latter part of the year, I had the joy of finding that the castle's furnace went out and we had frozen pipes, which weren't properly fixed until last month.

So, while on vacation last week, I did get a chance to move some of the stuff back into the garage. While doing so, I came across some more tools that I have no clue as to what they are or what they are to be used for. Since readers were kind enough to help me out in identifying a bevel gauge, I am hoping to have the same success with these other tools.

The first one is this:

As you can see, it looks like a little hatchet, except in the picture below, you can see that there are two blades on it.

And to add to its strangeness, there are three serated edges on the back end of it.

I really doubt it is a combination of meat tenderizer and axe for double-sighted hobbits.

Does anyone have an idea of what it might be?

  1. How funny...it is a meat tenderizer. Maybe for those who hunted down their own food...caveman style.

  2. My grandparents used to make their own sausages. I had also found an old fashioned meat grinder in the garage as well. Perhaps it got misplaced over the years, or by the roof caving in.

Thanks, gt. Stay tuned. I have four more lined up. And there's more that has to be moved back.
