Senator Jessica King To Hold Corrections Listening Sessions

State Senator Jessica King has announced  that will be hosting a legislative listening sessions focusing on the impact of workplace changes in our correctional institutions.

The gentle reader will remember that I informed them about the ongoing problems going on in our state correctional institutions. These problems are stemming directly from Act 10 and Act 38, which are putting our correction officers directly in harm's way.  Despite informational rallies aimed at raising awareness of the situation, these problems are continuing.

Democrats, Dump ALEC!

Progressive Change, at boldprogressives.com, has been taking part in the war against ALEC.  They've been putting pressure on ALEC's sponsors to drop their support for them.  

They have a petition which you can sign to add your voice to help keep this pressure up.

But what I found most exciting is that they will be hosting a national media launch on Friday, April 20, starting at 11 am, central time.  This launch will include eight legislators from around the nation, calling out their fellow Democrats to do the right thing and dump ALEC.  

And I'm proud to say that our own Senator Chris Larson will be leading this call, standing up for the people and against the would be corporate overlords, just as he has since being elected.

Thank you, Senator Larson, for your continued leadership to take not only our state, but our country back!

A Recall Rally On November 19

Citing upside-down gubernatorial approval ratings and broad public support of a recall, We Are Wisconsin has announced that they will kick off their recall petition drive with a major rally on Saturday, November 19 at 1:00 p.m., at the Wisconsin State Capitol.

“From the outset of his campaign, Scott Walker has engaged Wisconsinites in a high-stakes shell game,” said Kristen Crowell, Executive Director of We Are Wisconsin.

“He promised our state jobs; he instead increased the state unemployment rate, eviscerated workers' rights and collective bargaining, rewarded his wealthy corporate backers, underfunded our schools, and brutally divided our state.”

According to Crowell, Walker’s tactics have resulted in his upside-down approval ratings. “Scott Walker has championed the kind of extreme politics and naked cronyism that we’re just not used to reading about in the Wisconsin State Journal. It’s just not how we do business here.

“That’s why the majority of Wisconsinites disapprove of Walker’s job performance, and it’s why he will be the first Wisconsin governor to be recalled. From Beloit to Superior, Wisconsinites have made it clear that the Walker Way is not the Wisconsin Way.”

I have to say that I think this is a rather foolish thing to do.

 Oh, I understand the warm fuzzies that come from gathering with tens or even hundreds of thousands of like-minded people and the need to get people pumped up for the task at hand.

But that is exactly my issue.

The task will be at hand by then and they should be focusing on getting boots on the ground the minute the paperwork has been filed. If they need to have a rally, why not this coming weekend before the recall kicks off?

For those of you out there tonight or those coming out, I salute you and thank you.

The Return of #walkerville and Other Events

Tonight, at 7 pm, there will be a Labor Town Hall at Serb Hall (51st and Oklahoma). Come out and meeting Sandy Pasch (who is currently polling at a dead heat with Alberta Darling, who has had special interests hemorrhaging money for months, running ad after ad trying to promote her) and other people of interest and get fired up as we go into the next phase of taking back our state.

Tomorrow, June 2, there will be an Interfaith Vigil for a Just and Moral Budget.  This event will be led by a diverse group of clergy and faith leaders who will speak to the people about the universal call to all religions for justice.  They will point out how the choices that are currently being made in Madison should be moral choices and that the groundswell uprising in protest is a call for righteousness and justice.  The vigil starts at 7 pm and will be on the steps of the Capitol at the State Street entrance.

On Saturday, June 4, will be the return of the beloved #walkerville.  The pitching of tents will commence at 7 pm  and will be at Capitol Square on the corner where Mifflin and Carroll meet State. Word is this time it will be staying until we get the budget fixed.  There will be events to keep people entertained and their spirits up as the fight for Wisconsin continues.

Demonstration Against Dog Fighting This Monday

On Monday, November 2, from 7:30 to 9:30 in the morning, the Friends of MADACC (Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission) will be hosting a demonstration to protest dogfighting in Milwaukee and to thank the officers that busted one of the idiots that has been charged with this.

Steve Blackmon was charged in September 2008 with two felonies for animal fighting/training. Dogfighting does happen in Milwaukee, and... we will do what it takes to end this horrific blood “sport.” Join us for a peaceful demonstration to show jurors and the public that the citizens of Milwaukee are concerned about the cruelty of dogfighting, and thank the police involved in this arrest. A group of us will also be attending the court proceedings. A few breed ambassador dogs from will be in attendance as well.
