Funny, all I see are multiple layers of Walker's weaselocity.
Weasel One
Walker is lying. There is no doubt that he is, but the question is which time is he lying. Is he lying when he said he was in negotiations with the Wisconsin 14? Or was he lying when he said that the state was broke and that there would be no negotiations?
Weasel Two
The negotiations are not really negotiations. As Senator Jauch and Senator Cullen accurately point out:
Jauch cautioned that the two sides had never reached a deal. Cullen characterized the talks as "discussions" rather than negotiations, because he and Jauch weren't speaking on behalf of other Democrats, and said he was disappointed the details on them were sent out in a news release.Furthermore, these said negotiations still end up with one of Walker's primary goals, busting the unions, intact.
"I've never seen negotiations be done successfully in public," he said. "I thought they were bargaining in good faith."
Weasel Three
All the negotiations between Walker and the WI-14 are irrelevant as long as the Senate GOP leaves the bill as unamendable. Walker doesn't have the authority to change a bill that's on the floor of the senate. Even if Walker gave the WI-14 everything they wanted, the minute they came out on the senate floor, their Republican counterparts could just call a vote, override any objections, like they did in the Assembly, and simultaneously screw over their Democratic counterparts and every single working man and woman in the state. In other words, as Admiral Ackbar would say, "It's a trap!"
Bonus Fourth Weasel!
Isn't it convenient that Walker is able to selectively release the emails regarding the supposed negotiations? Too bad he still refuses to honor the legal open records request issued by the AP and the Isthmus regarding his suspicious claims of receiving that overwhelming amount of supportive emails.
Hey, it's a basis for a great new Echo-CHANT to reverberate off the walls of the Capitol... too tired to figure out exactly how to do it now, but perhaps someone will.
