George (Scott) Walker Bush

I am surprised that this did not occur to me earlier, but I just noticed today that there is an uncanny resemblance between George W. Bush and our own Scott Walker. I don't necessarily mean a physical resemblance, although they do have the same beady eyes.

But as I was reading the news today, the resemblance popped out at me, and the more I read, the more the resemblance became abundantly clear.

Both of these men adhere to the Grover Norquist philosophy of trying to make government so small that they can finally drown it in a bath tub. This has and will cost both the country and the county great deals of time, effort and money to fix their nonexistent management skills.

But here are some of the similarities that I've noticed:
  • George Bush lied about Iraq and their involvement with 9/11, having WMDs, etc. Furthermore, Bush has lied to the American people about how the war is going. According to his administration, al Qaeda has been in their death throes for about six years now. Likewise, Scott Walker has lied to the people of Milwaukee County by making promises he had no intention of keeping. He also continued to lie by telling us that he is fiscally responsible.
  • Bush appointed unqualified cronies like Mike Brown, only to have devastating results. Walker also appointed unqualified cronies, like Bob Dennik and Tim Russell, only to have it turn out badly.
  • Bush displayed alarming hypocrisy by claiming Medicare Part D would be a good thing that would save senior citizens and disabled people lots of money. It turned out to be only a boon for the insurance and pharmacy companies. Walker continues to show his hypocrisy regarding the stimulus funding.
  • When the victims of Hurricane Katrina turned to Bush for help, he was too busy partying it up. When the people of Milwaukee, feeling the devastation of today's economy turned to Walker to ask for help, he was missing in action, partying it up with Bush.
  • There was a constant din to impeach Bush due to his mismanagement. There is a growing uproar to recall Walker due to his mismanagement.
  • Bush has left the country with a record deficit. Walker has given Milwaukee County an ever increasing pile of bills with no clue or concern on how to pay for it.
  • Bush made the poor decision of following the advice of Cheney, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz. Walker made the bad choice of following the advice of Grover Norquist, George Bush and himself.
The only real difference is an unfortunate one. Most of the country is finally able to see Bush for the no-goodnik that he really is. I am sorry to say that my friend, Greg Kowalski is all too correct, in that not enough people yet see Walker for the weasel that he is. Although that number does appear to be growing by the day.

  1. Scott Walker and Bush are no where close in being the same, as policy is concerned.
Bush has increased the deficit. Walker has not.
Bush claims to be a compassionate conservative and Walker is just a conservative.
Bush does not believe in privatization and Walker does.
"There was a constant din to impeach Bush due to his mismanagement. There is a growing uproar to recall Walker due to his mismanagement" Bunch of crap.
    Sorry Keith.

  3. Walker has run up a deficit. There are over $300M in repair bills that are waiting. There is the unfunded pension that is in the $10s of millions. Just because he doesn't pay the bills doesn't mean he doesn't owe them anymore. It just means he isn't doing his job.

What are you calling crap, Dan? That people are growing increasingly fed up with Walker's short-sightedness? I've offered proof in this and in previous posts.

If your saying Walker's management style is crap, well then, I agree.

  4. No, the part about the recall. So, a few lefties want to recall Walker, so what? you make it sound like a ground swell of support. Even the MJS doesn't support it.
Well the point is that you want to smear him so if he does run for governor, a potential recall will look bad. Why don't you just be honest about that.
Besides, who are you going get to run as a canidate? Do you think you will find a canidate? The other 2 canidates didn't do very well against him.

  5. Walker is vapid and devoid of ideas other than run of the mill conservative pap. These are challenging times and Walker fails to present Milwaukee as innovative or forward thinking. That is why dynamic companies choose to set up shop anywhere, or thing move ahead.

The job of a leader is to move a community forward. Walker flunks.

  7. The unfunded pension liability is somewhere around $700 million now that the stock market has tanked. Scott wants to borrow $350-400 million in the hopes the stock market returns will shrink this gap. If he did this in any of the previous 4 years we'd now have an even larger pension deficit.

Walker is simply not interested in doing anything that advances the city if it interferes with the exurban parts of Milwaukee County. Cutting bus service has pushed the MCTS into a death spiral and he's failed to provide any sort of detail about the Bus Rapid Transit system he wants to implement in lieu of Barrett's streetcar loop. Privatizing the airport, a piece of County property that actually turns a profit, is another bad idea because it's likely the airport would raise fees under private ownership. At the same time, he wants taxpayers to fund expensive upgrades to the baggage handling system before he actually studies the idea of selling it.

Everyone has a different reason for wanting more from our county executive, but it really comes down to a lack of competency, much like Bush.

And the City of Milwaukee is doing any better?

  9. Didn't you have a chance to recall Walker less than a year ago? How'd that go?

And I could've sworn that Milwaukee also had a Mayor and Common Council. If you want higher taxes, they seem pefectly willing to oblige.

    But here's the real gem:

"Bush appointed unqualified cronies like Mike Brown, only to have devastating results. Walker also appointed unqualified cronies, like Bob Dennik and Tim Russell, only to have it turn out badly."

You guys aren't really that hypocritical are you? Has your OCD prevented you from leaning a critical eye west to Madison or looking beyond the lakeshore to Washington, DC?

  10. Um, Lindsey, did you have too much to drink at Weaselfest?

The election could've gone better. But at least most of the County Board is sane.

There is a difference between the City of Milwaukee and the County of Milwaukee.

And in case you weren't aware, Bush is in Washington, DC.

  11. Dan, the whole City of Milwaukee is encapsulated in the County of Milwaukee. When the County tanks, it will take the city with it.
