Scott Walker's Partial Recall

In 2012 during the recall elections, Scott Walker worked with the dark money group - the Coalition for American Values (CAV), to diminish the actual recall(apparently the videos have disappeared)(emphasis mine):

Days before Wisconsin GOP Gov. Scott Walker's June 2012 recall election, two TVads ran on stations statewide. Paid for by a group called the Coalition for American Values (CAV), the ads attacked the very notion of holding a recall election (even though it's in the state constitution) and featured supposed Wisconsin citizens speaking out against the recall. "I didn't vote for Scott Walker, but I'm definitely against the recall," one man says. In another ad, the narrator says, "Recall isn't the Wisconsin way...End the recall madness. Vote for Scott Walker June 5th."

CAV put $400,000 behind those ads, which stoked a sense of unease about the recall among Wisconsin voters. Walker coasted to a seven-point victory. Exit polls strongly suggested that CAV's ads played a part in the governor's win. Yet the mystery surrounding the Coalition for American Values persisted. The group never disclosed how much it spent, how much it raised, or who funded it.

Now that Scott Walker is running for President, it appears that recalls are "the Wisconsin Way" as Scott Walker is using the Recall in his latest "I am not running for President" ad.  

Like Scott Walker's whole career, the video fittingly starts out with a lie.   CGI enhanced snow over beautiful trees full of leaves!  

It is only fitting since he started his Gubernatorial career with a lie also:

Be prepared because lots more flip flopping is on the way!

Common Core Continued

I wrote about Scott Walker wanting to overturn Common Core State Standards this morning.

It turns out that was just the tip of the iceberg, as Andy @Wisoapbox explores this issue in depth and puts all other bloggers and media in WI to shame.

 I recommend reading the WHOLE piece but I will share a couple highlights here!    

The first that stood out to me was Captain Voucher, Jeremy Thiesfeldt's attempt to rebrand Common Core STATE Standards to just Common Core Standards to fit better into his narrative.   WISB outted him.

“I was pleased to hear that Gov. Walker called on the legislature to pass a bill in January repealing the Common Core Standards (CCS). I look forward to promptly tackling this issue as our first priority in response to the governor’s appeal.  

Notice how he doesn't say "state" standards. That's a VERY specific and important change conservatives are trying to do in "un-localizing" the Common Core STATE Standards.

Wisconsin’s educational standards need to be improved, but Wisconsin students are best served by standards created within our own state. 

Unfortunately, the Democratic party has decided not to run anyone against Thiesfeldt so all we can do is look at his blatant dishonesty in awe.  

Secondly WISB has a major coup.  It turns out Scott Walker was for CCSS before he was against them:

Also, Walker's statement calling for dumping Common Core comes after he has worked with the state DPI for the past several years on education reform issues that all hinge on successful implementation of the standards. 

But, but what?! Oh, so Gov. Walker was for it before he was against it? (Oh 2004 Kerry campaign.) Seriously, if anyone wanted to know why he wasn't saying much about Common Core before now, this is why - He actually worked with them and utilized them in a lot of what he did with respect to school accountability.

In his 2011-'13 budget veto message to the Assembly, Walker wrote that his budget supported greater accountability and performance in K-12 education by "investing $15 million in the development of a statewide student information system and requiring the Department of Public Instruction to implement new pupil assessment based on mastery of Common Core Standards by 2014-15."

D'OH.  As I always say, whats a few million taxpayer dollars if it will help further Scotty's career?

Using our children as political props and catering the anti intellectuals in the tea party is a sure fire loser in November, let's make sure this backfires on them big time!

I Am Sensing A Theme!

This weekend there was so much flip flopping going around that it made anyone following the Rmoney/Rayn ticket dizzy.

1.  Mitt Romney was for including Pre-Existing conditions in health care reform, before he was told he was against it.  It turns out in 12 hours, Mitt Romney and his campaign completely switched their stance on this issue 4 times.     H/T Wonkette for providing a flip flop time line:

2. Then Paul Ryan spoke out for states rights in the Marijuana debate before he was told he was against that stance.  

 

Campaign aides for Republican vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) busied themselves this weekend with telling reporters that the candidate “agrees with Mitt Romney” on keeping marijuana illegal, despite him telling a Colorado television station that he supports letting states flout federal laws on medical marijuana.
Romney said earlier this year that he believes “marijuana should not be legal in this country,” calling it “a gateway drug to other drug violations.”

 3.  Paul Ryan has been criticizing President Obama for defense cuts that Ryan actually voted for, unless of course you ask him.  Buckle up for this Tilt O Whirl!

Paul Ryan Was Incredibly, Unimaginably, Inconceivably, Lucky...

Boy Did his coincidence help him cash in!

It should probably come as no surprise to anyone that someone like Paul Ryan would trade on inside information gained through his position as a congressman to line his pockets, but this particular instance is especially egregious. Ryan attended a closed meeting with congressional leaders, Bush's Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on September 18, 2008. The purpose of the meeting was to disclose the coming economic meltdown and beg Congress to pass legislation to help collapsing banks.

Instead of doing anything to help, Ryan left the meeting and on that very same day Paul Ryan sold shares of stock he owned in several troubled banks and reinvested the proceeds in Goldman Sachs, a bank that the meeting had disclosed was not in trouble. This is the guy Republicans want one heartbeat away from the presidency? He seems more than a little shady to me.

All of the relevant documents are located here at The Richmonder! This on top the fact that as his influence on the budget committee grows, so does his personal wealth and stake in mining interests! Then you realize why he had this to say about TARP:

"Madam Speaker, this bill offends my principles, but I'm gonna vote for this bill in order to preserve my principles." This Ryan flip-flop comes from his 2008 House floor speech in support of TARP, the $700 billion Wall Street bailout package.

Then you wonder how someone as unethical and dishonest as Paul Ryan(R-Wall St.) can come from WI.

EDITORS NOTE: SInce there is a chance that this has been proven wrong(see comments under tpm link), I decided to give the congressman the benefit of the doubt. So i changed the title to this post and acknowledge that maybe he is so busy helping his Mines grow in profit with his influence he has not had time or the expertise to engage in insider trading.
