County Board Should Show Randall The Door

Gerard Randall really knows how to work the system, and he is no stranger to controversy.

He was appointed in 1994, by then Governor Tommy Thompson, as a UW Regent. He showed his true colors when he refused to give up his seat when Governor Jim Doyle was elected and went to replace him.

He was also appointed to the Milwaukee County's Private Industry Council in the late 90's. He was in that position for several years, before his incompetence forced Doyle to take the PIC away from Milwaukee County and give it to the City of Milwaukee and Mayor Tom Barrett.

County Executive Scott Walker and the County Board quickly reacted by giving him a no-bid contract to run a County program that duplicated the service offered by the Private Industry Council. In other words, Walker and the Board took tax payer dollars and gave this guy a no-bid contract to do the same thing he just gone done proving he was incapable of doing. That's some mighty fine fiscal conservatism going on there, I tell you.

Since then, the County has kept renewing Randall's no-bid contract, even though his performance has been questionable and his bookkeeping has been horrid.

Today, the County Board's Finance and Audit Committee continued this nonsense by approving yet another renewal, at an even higher rate.

James Rowen points out that Walker is willing to through his fellow Republican under his campaign bus, as that Walker has vowed to veto any renewal. This time, I think Walker actually went against his norm and got it right.

Randall did not do a good job when the County had PIC, causing the loss in the first place. It is difficult to judge how good of a job he's done under the contract due to the shoddy bookkeeping.
But seeing how the City of Milwaukee, which has a better history of job creation than Walker and Randall combined, I think the County could put that money to better use than duplicating an existing service. Or if they feel the need to use that money for a job creation program, then I would humbly suggest putting the contract up for bid. I would bet that there are other agencies that could do a better job and give the County more bang for the buck.

  2. This is a good example of the quantity versus quality I was talking about. Dude, you need to edit your articles before you publish them, especially if WisOpinion is publishing them.

    Example 1. "He was in that position for several years, before his incompetence forced Doyle to take the PIC away from Milwaukee County and give it to the City of Milwaukee and Mayor Tom Barrett."

    There should be no comma here.

    ============================

    Example 2.

    "In other words, Walker and the Board took tax payer dollars and gave this guy a no-bid contract to do the same thing he just gone done proving he was incapable of doing."

    The word "gone" should be "got."

    ========================

    Example 3.

    "Since then, the County has kept renewing Randall's no-bid contract, even though his performance has been questionable and his bookkeeping has been horrid."

    Again, no comma is required here.

    =============================

    Example 4.

    "Today, the County Board's Finance and Audit Committee continued this nonsense by approving yet another renewal, at an even higher rate."

    Again, no comma required.

    ==========================

    Example 5.

    "James Rowen points out that Walker is willing to through his fellow Republican under his campaign bus, as that Walker has vowed to veto any renewal. This time, I think Walker actually went against his norm and got it right."

    The word "through" should be "throw."

    And example 6.

    "Randall did not do a good job when the County had PIC, causing the loss in the first place."

    Again, no comma required.

  4. No, just some anonymous poster pointing out that Capper's articles aren't published on WisOpinion because of his writing skills.

  5. Dan,

    Jay would have left his name. Secondly, this is what people do when they are losing. They nitpick and start getting personal. I'm waiting for the false allegations any day now.

  6. Just saying you should take your time when you submit your articles to WisOpinion. After all, they publish your stuff because you're such a good writer, right?

  7. Not only that, but I have ranked #1 on two separate influence charts. I guess I should be thanking you for that. All the comments you've been leaving has been making this site much more visible, and has helped me get the word out.

  8. Thanks. I will do my best to get your writings more visible - grammatical mistakes, unsupported assertions, and illogical conclusions - basically the whole liberal package. You are a better spokesperson for conservatism that most conservatives.

  9. Anonymous,

    I don't really care who wins this argument either way, but for goodness sakes, isn't the pot calling the kettle black?

    Example 1:
    You are a better spokesperson for conservatism that most conservatives.

    The word "that" should be "than."
