Thanksgiving Day is one of those days steeped in tradition. Families across the country gather to feed on the same old same old - turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.
But for us in Casa de Capper, things are different now, and not just in the political sense. Our immediate families on both sides are gone to their final resting places now and we moved to a new house. We also got ourselves a new pup, Beau the Handsome.
With so many changes in our everyday life, we decided to make other changes, ending some traditions, bringing back some old ones and starting some new ones of our own.
One tradition that I've done for nine years now is sharing the recipe for Popcorn Turkey, so here ya go:
Here is a Thanksgiving Turkey recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a stuffing - imagine that.It's also good for making sure that you don't have to cook another holiday meal for years to come.
When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people like me, who just are not sure how to tell when poultry is thoroughly cooked, but not dried out. Give this a try.
BAKED STUFFED TURKEY
10-12 lb. Turkey
1 cup melted butter
1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is good.)
5 cups uncooked popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHER 'S LOW FAT)
Salt/pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush Turkey well with melted butter, salt, and pepper. Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven.Listen for the popping sounds. When the turkey's ass blows the oven door open and flies across the room, it's done.
