Point To Ponder

Why is it that most people that oppose assisted suicide are adamant about people having guns, even though the majority of suicides are committed using a firearm? Aren't they defeating their own position?

  1. "adamant about people having guns"...?

Have you read the bill of rights? Do you understand it? Do you know that the bill of rights does not grant you anything? Do you know the bill of rights limits government not people?

The right of people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed...

For the record this has nothing to do with assisted suicide or my stance on it. Also, if there is a quantitative "many", there would be a collection of data to support it.

  2. If guns are removed, people will just find another creative means to kill themselves.

  3. Please substantiate your first sentence. I think you're citing opinion.

  4. I think the key word is assisted.

  5. Anonymous,

There is the information you state isn't there, you just don't want to hear it.

People are less likely to commit suicide if they know it will be long and drawn out and/or painful. Enforcing stricter laws limiting access to guns will not stop suicides, but it will lower the numbers.

Are you unfamiliar with conservative values?

Making sure everyone can have a gun whether it is the responsible thing to do or not is assisting them.

  6. "There is the information you state isn't there, you just don't want to hear it."
    Where is it?

  7. I provided one link. If you find that unsatisfactory, do a Google search.

  8. You have a hsitory of playing loose with comments you claim are true...this appears to be just another of the many.

  9. Good thing I don't have a history of doing that. A hsitory I can live with. But, eh, what is the opinion of one anonymous commenter?

  10. capper, I have no problem with a person killing themselves, if they do it themselves. I used to work as a firefighter and EMT and dealt with suicide. Walking in front of trains or suicide by cop.
It's one thing if a person kills themselves by their self, it's another when they kill themselves with other people, voluntarily or unsuspecting, helping them. That's my point.
And if you kill yourself, don't make it messy because other people have to clean you up.

  11. It always amazes how many people spout off about the second amendment but actually do very little to understand or even read it.

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

Unless you are apart of well regulated militia that is necessary to the security of a free state -- and not the loony backwoods anti-everything types mind you -- you don't have any explicit right to keep and bear arms.

Foregoing that, it down to a matter of justifying why a private citizen, or group of private citizens, requires weapons capable of being concealed and rapidly deployed for use against other citizens.

If you think that's unacceptable, ponder that next time you hear about any person, bank, etc... being robbed, raped or killed at gun-point.
