GE Oil and Gas plans to close its plant in Oshkosh, leaving 90 employees without jobs.Doesn't that just make you feel better about the future of Wisconsin's economy?
Layoffs at the plant, 3300 Medalist Drive, are expected to begin Sept. 18 and continue through the end of the year, according to a notice filed Friday with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
The layoffs affect 30 salaried employees and 60 hourly worker, who are represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 1947.
The layoffs are being conducted as part of a reorganization in which some operations are being shifted to other plants in Houston, according to the company.
It shouldn't. It should terrify the bloody hell out of you, if you're sane.
That almost completely wipes out the 110 new jobs at AT&T Walker crowing about today: http://www.jsonline.com/business/129328583.html
ReplyDeleteOh, we lost a lot more than this day.
ReplyDeleteIs Houston a union shop(s)?
ReplyDeleteEither way, it exemplifies the ability of "big business" to shift resources and operations of their scale from state to state, as well as overseas.
My question to you and all: why should the state of WI give these "job creators" all the incentives to come here, only to leave with the wealth created by Wisconsin resources and labor?
