The Great (Democratic) DIvide

By Jeff Simpson

Democratic Presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders came to Madison on Easter Weekend to give a rally.   Over 8000 people packed the Alliant Energy Center to hear Sen. Sanders, break the news that he also won Alaska and Washington by huge margins that day.

“The Republican candidates think elections are about attacking each other’s wives. Or behaving as if they were 10-year-olds in a food fight in a cafeteria,” Sanders said. “These Republicans are not just an embarrassment for the American people, they are an embarrassment for sane Republicans.”
Madison Mayor Paul Soglin, one of a number of speakers opening the event, said Sanders was the only presidential candidate who wasn’t beholden to special interests and created policy proposals with middle-class families and workers in mind.
“The (current) agenda includes too many tax breaks for those who exploit workers in this country and abroad,” Soglin said to a cheering crowd. “Let’s get a couple things straight — tax breaks for the rich do not create jobs.”
Over 8000 screaming Democrats and Progressives took four hours out of the middle of the day on a Saturday to show support for Bernie Sanders.
While there were over 8000 people there, the one thing that was noticeably missing was elected officials.  Sure there were some Progressive Dane County Board members and Madison Mayor Paul Soglin(who endorsed Bernie at the event) yet not a state wide/national elected official from WI was in attendance.
The stories of the Clinton's ruthlessness are legendary and probably a good reason why the electeds almost exclusively endorse Hillary.
Heaven help anyone's career who endorses Bernie and Hillary wins!!
We see that with almosty unanimous support for Hillary from elected officials, not just in Wisconsin but the rest of the country as well.

This is a typical Hillary picture, meeting with local electeds alone and away from  the peasants.

Where as this has been more true of the Bernie Sanders rallies:

When the electeds so differ from the voting public, it shows the disconnect they have with their constituents and it also shows that many are more worried about advancing their career, than making the world a better place!

Please vote for Senator Bernie Sanders on April 5th!

  3. Just gotta love the "NO WE CAN'T" Hillary campaign. Thanks, Unknown, for coming by and showing us all how deficient Clinton is as a candidate.

  4. There is an excellent piece on this at salon.com. It describes perfectly how and why the Clintons thrive on disillusionment. Highly recommended reading.

    1. Just read that Bill Curry article myself, and I also encourage you to read it. Great points on how backing Hillary over Bernie makes no sense if you believe in Dem values, change or electability.

  6. It is sad to see Hillary follow the Walker move of only meeting with selected or employer forced supporters.

  8. Hillary is by far the most competent person running in either party.

  9. This is the chance for the democratic party to bring in moderate republicans and independents. Instead many of the base are supporting someone who wasn't even a democrat until last year. The Reagan democrats stated that they didn't leave the democratic party, the democratic party left them. Now is the time we should be moving to the center not farther left. While my personal beliefs might be closer to Bernie, a centrist candidate is what is needed. For those that would argue this is a movement of the majority, then why are the house, senate, most governorships and state legislatures republican?
