Congratulations, Governor Kleefisch

Well, that's it folks. Tom Barrett just conceded the race, even while votes were still being tallied and barely 40 minutes after the last vote was even cast.

And yup, it's frustrating as hell.  The people of Wisconsin* will be doing navel-gazing for days and weeks, trying to figure what went wrong.  I'll touch on that in a later post.

And yup, it's frustrating as hell.  But there are some things you have to keep in mind and the sooner you see it, the sooner we can get back to working at setting things right and making the state whole again.

Remember, I've been a veteran of the war against Walker and his kind for ten years.  I've seen my share of battles lost.  But I also have seen apparent losses end up being victories.

First of all, this was nothing but a Pyrrhic victory for Scott Walker and his corporate backers.  They will find the sweet taste of victory soon turning sour and becoming ashes in their mouths.

Their star child will soon fall from his pedestal, dragged down by no one but himself.  How will the Republicans extol the "virtues" of their agenda and ideology when Walker is doing the perp walk into court to answer to his indictment?  You will see all, and I do mean all, of Walker's friends backpedaling so fast they will run the risk of falling on their own butts.

And as we have already seen, their agenda isn't working.  We're still hemorrhaging jobs as the rest of the country gains.  We're still losing businesses that can't survive without the money flow that Walker and company dried up and are keeping for their own.  Our state's economy is still the worst in the country.

And while Walker and company continues that path, there is no reason to expect things to get better.

In fact, things are likely to get worse.  But in a way, that's a good thing.

People will start waking up and coming back to their senses.  And as things keep blowing up on Walker, this will become only more true.  That is when we start getting our state back.

As an example of what I'm saying being the truth, look at Milwaukee County.  We Milwaukeeans know both Barrett and Walker very well.  In 2010, we voted in favor of Barrett 62-38.  This year, it is 63-37.  We know fully well that Walker is bad news and we continuously reject him outright.  The state will learn this lesson soon enough.

But as I mentioned, unfortunately, Walker won't be there to take the heat for his failure.  He'll be in prison by then, disgraced and humiliated as the truth comes out about him.

And yes, that will leave us with the vacuous-minded, homophobic, self-hating Rebecca Kleefisch as governor.  Her ineptness will soon become all too apparent and she will become nothing more than a laughable figurehead.  And because of her ineptitude and maliciousness, and her ties to the then-jailed Walker, she won't win her first election of governor.

So, you see, while it is extraordinarily frustrating right now, it is not without hope.  It's just setting us up for a better and bigger victory in two years.  And the amazing way the people of Wisconsin has come together, forming everlasting friendships, unity and solidarity, we have given ourselves the base we need to work from.

Sadly, we will see gloating and taunting from the right, most notably the politicians.  Again, that will be a blessing in disguise.  There's a saying you can only kick a dog so long before it bites you.  The same goes for badgers.  Take the anger you will feel and use it to help rebuild ourselves and the state.

And as a faithful reader told me tonight, as she was comforting her teenage grandson, who was very upset about the results of Tuesday's recall election, we should remember the old nursery rhyme about Humpty Dumpty:

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again
The Republicans and the Kochs, but I repeat myself, have tied themselves permanently to Walker.  When he takes his great fall, he takes them with him.  Their agenda will fall apart and nothing  and no one will be able to put it back together.  What their touting as their greatest asset is, in reality, their greatest weakness.

In other words, while it looks like we took a grievous blow tonight, we will still fare much better than they will.

Until, I continue to stand with and fight for Wisconsin, and I hope you will join me in doing so.

*Yes, there is still in a Wisconsin and no matter what, Fitzwalkerstan won't be able to completely kill it off.  Walker and company tried that in Milwaukee and failed to snuff us out.

  1. The disappointment from tonight led me to your excellent blog. I must ask this, as you are closer to the rail of Wisconsin politics and can put an ear to it. Do you really believe that Walker will be indicted soon? Or is this just wishful thinking.

    1. My best guess is he will be by fall.

    2. Now that the election is over, the investigators are able to move more freely.

  2. I see. That makes sense. Hopefully it will be relatively soon before he does more damage do your state. Good luck.

  3. Also, do the potential charges really look that good? And can the Kochs get him out of it.

    1. Yes, and I don't think they'd bother. He's expendable to them.

  4. What I do not get, is that 1.4 million residents of your state voted for that douche again.

    1. I'll explain that tomorrow, er, later today.

    2. Thats because the majority of the people in this state approve of the work he is doing. We are lucky to have a leader like Scott Walker instead of a lapdog for unions Like Barrett Falk Doyle etc

  5. you are so full of shit, you lost because the majority of people in WIsconsin are sick of the likes of you and the garbadge that come out of your mouth..

  6. Well, it is all over the news. Now they are stating this is making Wisconsin a swing state, despite the exit poll results.

  7. Well said. In this election and the continuing John Doe, Walker really is very much like Richard Nixon, and so is the GOP.

  8. John Lehman winning the 21st, let's all keep in mind, will prevent Walker from doing anymore legislative damage to our State before that indictment comes down (bets on whether state or federal indictment comes first?)

Without a Dem Senate Majority, he would call a special session, all puffed up with his recall win, and continue his reign of terror.

He still will be doing his damage by administrative fiat, but it's up to the Dems, citizen watchdogs and the media to call him out when it happens---like the human waste dumping abuses that were uncovered.

  9. Remember all the hopes we pinned on US AG Fitzgerald years ago during the dark ages of the Bush reign?

I wouldn't hold my breath for an indictment and even if one issues, conviction is most unlikely. In the meanwhile, Walker can stay governor, there is no requirement he must step down if indicted.

  10. Ah yes, but Fitzgerald did the deed with Blagoyavich, didn't he?!

Between the John Doe/State charges and US Attorney/Federal charges, Mr. Walker will be at the very least be distracted from continuing his fight against the working class, woman and minorities of Wisconsin.

  11. To the other teabagging anons on here. It is really funny how all of you show off your GED education and childish rants. It either means you are either incredibly immature, scared that yes, Walker will get Indicted and convicted (regarding Fitz with Scooter Libby, he won a conviction, Bush pardoned him to keep his mouth shut. Funny how you all think trying to rewrite history means others will believe it). As for all of this, the best part? Is when Walker tries to privatized everything and your costs go through the roof. So who will you blame then? I doubt you would have the courage to look in the mirror. More than likely, you will be too cowardly to admit your mistake and just pay through the nose. And I will be sitting here laughing. Cheers!

  12. Also, ask yourselves this: If Walker was innocent, and claimed he was NOT the target of the investigation (which he clearly is), then why did he create his defense fund in March? Answer: He knew he was, and he lied when he said he was not. The law stated that he cannot create such a fund if he is NOT the target of an investigation or an indictment. I wonder what baloney you will spew when he is perp marched to the Milwaukee Court or the Federal Court, or both! Cheers!

  13. My best guesses why people voted for this lying sack of crap:
    1. "Better the devil you know."
    2. "I don't change of any kind."
    3. "I don't want to admit I was wrong the first time."
    4. "His grape Kool-Aid quenches my immediate thirst; I don't care about the side effects."

  14. How funny! Anonymous ragging on other anonymous posters. Sorry I'm college educated and not a GED education. I think I'll be the one laughing! LOL

    1. I did say to all the other anons. I doubt you are college educated. More than likely, it was a study at home course from Sally Struthers. And the best part is that all you can do is make a lame, petty whine about "I R KOLLAGE EDUMICATED!!" And you also cannot prove what I said was incorrect. Again, if and when the indictments come, I wonder what your stance will be then?

  15. The ability of billionaires and corporations to spend unlimited money in elections means that the Democratic party will need to seek even more favor with corprate predators to remain viable. In the not distant future we will be faced with the choice of extreme-right or a center-right parties. In the short term this will spell disaster for education, the environment, social programs, the elderly, the poor and the working class.

In the long run this means that a new politics will evolve as a combination social movement and political party to defend the interests of the disenfranchised.

All across the industrialised world the austerity policies of the dominant political parties are collapsing the economic system. This process of creative destruction will accelerate over the next few years and leave a gigantic opening for a pragmatic left-wing politics based on local control, worker owned enterprises, sustainable neighborhoods through community support networks and a banking system that is cleansed of corporate parasites.

For a glimpse of the future take a look at the ways in which the Greek people are organising and fighting back against the financial oligarchs.

  16. No way the construct of the Senate 24 hours ago would let a "reign of terror" prevail. Just keep patting yourself on the backs. From what I hear Lehman will pick up an extension on his pension though. Bravo. And all that.

BTW, I'm going to start calling you Capper Quixote. You are a passionate man, that's for certain.

  17. Well, that's a mighty fine polish on that turd, there.
Don't underestimate the ability of the plutocrats to polish Acting Governor "I've Got a Minivan" in 2014, either, should it come to that.

You're a pretty good writer, why not use it for something constructive, rather than destructive?

    1. If Walker had been recalled you would have been here commenting that the people of Wisconsin had spoken. Right? And complimented Capper for his work in exposing Walker for what he is. Right?

  19. It appears that Walker won even more than he did in 2010...so much for that logic that Barrett was the only candidate capable of defeating him that the liberal punditry all too happily pushed.

The fact is, the labor movement messed up every step of the way. By focusing on collective bargaining and not how Act 10 and the biennial budget affect everyone, it was inward-looking and lost the opportunity to connect with people outside of Madison and Milwaukee. By following only an electoral strategy, we no longer had the ability to change anyone's mind. By putting our trust in the Democrats, we gave them a blank check, which they misused because the Dems hold a failed ideology and have no alternatives.

And anyway, don't hold your breath for a Walker indictment. The only thing you should ask yourself is: what are we going to when the next budget cuts come down, because the economy isn't going to get better any time soon.

  20. Capper,If you go to the Dem convention next weekend can you put in the good word for Tate & Zielinski? They've been doing such a good job they should get lifetime deals !

  21. What a bunch of liberal cry babies. I think someone without even a GED would have enough sense not to vote for Barrett! Seeing senators flee the state was enough to make me not even think twice who to vote for. WAH WAH, we didn't get our way so left leave and cry until momma gives us what we want. IT IS BITTERSWEET to say the least.
