Remember that Scott Walker claimed and is still claiming that he "started the investigation" by having his Chief of Staff Tom Nardelli go to the DA's Office with concerns about missing money. What he doesn't want to talk about is how he also immediately started to stonewall the investigation, opening the door for Walkergate.
I don't expect any big revelations from this, but you never can tell.
But that's OK, because there's other things to chew on.

I have recently heard that Phase II of the Walkergate investigation has already commenced. Apparently Kelly Rindfleisch did give some information after all and gave up Cindy Archer.
Archer had been Walker's Director of Administration during the time Walker was Milwaukee County Executive. Criminal complaints and other documents from Walkergate show that Archer was deeply involved with the illegal campaigning and the collusion between county personnel and campaign staff.
Word is that Archer is already working on a plea deal even though she hasn't been arrested yet, much less charged. It's a maneuver called a negotiated issuance.
If this is true and they are going after Archer, there's a good chance that they are going after others, like Tom Nardelli, who was Walker's Chief of Staff during this time.
This would also explain why they let off people like Rindfleisch or Tim Russell with relative slaps on the wrist. Many people wanted the DA to get these two to flip on Walker.
But neither of these people were, as far as the Milwaukee County hierarchy goes, closer than two degrees separated. The highest position that both Rindfleisch and Russell reached was Deputy Chief of Staff, two spots below Walker.
But if they turned on Archer and Nardelli, well, now we're at the level just below Walker, as his Director of Administration and Chief of Staff, respectively. They testimony would be much harder for Walker to explain away.
Yup, 2013 is shaping up to be a most interesting year.
Now, if only we could figure out who John Doe is...

Nardelli saw this coming some time ago and has moved to put a lot distance between himself and Mr. John Doe. He's a pretty smart political having worked for both parties and knows this whole mess is a ride he wants to get off before it hits bottom. Lets see if Tom's smarter than Tim when dealing with the DA's office.

DeleteI've always wondered whether Nardelli reported the problem under Walker's direction or whether he acted on his own. Perhaps things got to the point where he had little choice but to report the problem if he was to protect his own backside.

ReplyDeleteCapper may not be too far from the truth with the whole, "new fiscal year, new initiative" mantra he's been promoting. With the news today that Gilkes is still actively cooperating with the DA and that things are still one the move, January may end up being the beginning of the end.
I think the DA and his staff are looking forward to the coming holiday season and the new year. Others, not so much.

ReplyDeleteI also love how he claims he didn't know about the secret Milw Co router when he's sending messages to the non-work emails of Rindfleisch and the rest of the "campaign team."
Then again, Gilkes is the guy who said "It's David Koch on line 1, Gov. Walker." So he's not exactly a sharp one.
Apparently he thinks we can't read. The Rindfleisch emails show us he is a liar and his having a fit over the question shows he is guilty. He truly is protesting too much - in the form of overreacting. The emperor has no clothes...

The court record events are pretty interesting. Some juicy tidbits there too...
ReplyDeleteWorking in Psych we learn to read everything whether body language, verbiage and inflection, written language, and interactions with others in a very analytical fashion. Don't read too fast and read the larger picture, be an abstract thinker. Does what is being communicated make sense or is it incongruous? Is the communication in "plain English" or double speak? During this whole case the change in demeanor, affect, tone & inflection, and rate of speaking of SW and co has changed to indicate anxiety, being guarded to avoid disclosing their true current thoughts, and hypervigilance towards those they perceive as "the enemy" (namely anyone who asks the questions they don't want to answer).
Paranoia, perhaps a guilty conscience, and the things not said tell a lot. SW has gone from confident and commanding to stammering and appearing timid at times. Now we've seen anger come out towards those that are asking the questions we need to ask.
Also SW routinely engages in projection so listen closely to the things he accuses his opponents of because in reality he is telling on himself.

If I recall, didn't you get suspended with loss of pay for ten days for using county resources for personal use?? Kind of hypocritical of you, isn't it??
