Well, they've gone and done it again.
This time, they posted this image on their Facebook page:
There's only one problem.
Washington never said that.
Via Daily Kos, we learn what Washington really said:
The actual quote comes from Washington's address to Congress on January 8th, 1790 and goes like this: "A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined; to which end a Uniform and well digested plan is requisite: And their safety and interest require that they should promote such manufactories, as tend to render them independent others, for essential, particularly for military supplies." Note that the quote has nothing to do with gun rights and is clearly concerns properly equipping the military.Perhaps the Barron County GOP really shouldn't have guns. They can't seem to shoot straight no matter what.
Perhaps they should read primary sources when quoting our first President, George Washington.
ReplyDeleteHopefully they will take down the misinformation, which is unpatriotic, to mess up a quote from the our hero, George Washington. The ladies at Mt. Vernon will be disgusted-they are the ones who got the plantation and house at Mt. Vernon fixed up so that people can go and see it.
Certainly, you jest. This is deliberate misinformation. and,now that the meme has been loosed, it can never be corrected
DeleteI do not jest. I agree it is probably deliberate misinformation, but it should be changed.
ReplyDeleteThey can go to mtvernon.org to get started.
If only they really were barren.
ReplyDeletePoor President Washington. He had to cope with a mouthful of false teeth in life and a mouthful of false quotes in eternity.
