The Walker Agenda Is Still Working! Part CLXXIX

More "good" news for Milwaukee, which is under the double austerity of Scott Walker's and Chris Abele's austerity agendas:

Rock-Tenn Co. will close a corrugated box plant on Milwaukee's north side where 69 people now work.

The Georgia-based firm notified state officials Tuesday that it would shutter the factory as of July 5.

Most employees at the plant, 2800 W. Custer Ave., will move to other Rock-Tenn box factories in the Milwaukee area, a company spokeswoman said. She said Rock-Tenn is shutting down Custer Ave. operation because the firm has more plant and equipment capacity than it needs.

The plant has produced corrugated boxes since the 1950s. Rock-Tenn acquired it in 2011 when it bought Smurfit-Stone Container Corp.

The United Steelworkers union represents employees at the plant. Union officials could not be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.

Two years ago, Rock-Tenn gave notice that it would close another Milwaukee factory, at 1900 W. Cornell St., laying off 199 workers.

What I really find odd about this is that I thought there would be a high demand for cardboard boxes, what with Wisconsin being one of the top states that people are fleeing from as they look for work and safer environments.
