Reagan Quote Of The Day

By Jeff Simpson

From  Reagan Biographer Lou Cannon on Scott Walker:

Reality was more complicated, he said: As governor of California, Reagan signed tax increases and an abortion-rights bill. As president, he found common ground with the Soviet Union and did not relish firing the air traffic controllers, Mr. Cannon said.
“He never made his bones on trying to break the back of labor the way Walker has,” Mr. Cannon said. “Walker is borrowing from Reagan’s mystique more than any other Republican eyeing the presidency, but Ronald Reagan he ain’t.

OUCH.

  1. Jeff, thanks.

    Reagan vigorously supported collective bargaining:

"These are the values inspiring those brave workers in Poland, the values that have inspired other dissidents under communist domination, who have been willing to go into the gulag and suffer the torture of imprisonment, because of their dissidence. They remind us that where free unions and collective bargaining are forbidden, freedom is lost. They remind us that freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. You and I must protect and preserve freedom here, or it will not be passed on to our children and it will disappear everywhere in the world. Today, the workers in Poland are showing a new generation how high is the price of freedom, but also how much, it is worth that price. I want more than anything I've ever wanted, to have an administration that will through its actions, at home and in the international arena, let millions of people know, that Miss Liberty, still lifts her lamp beside the golden door."

  3. The highlights are all that matter. You know, sound bytes. Who needs context? The truth? The whole story?

Those things get in the way of Walkers checklist of things to do.

    1. Fire union workers and/or break unions.
    2. Talk tough like you want to start a war.
    ...
25+. When questioned about all of the laws you broke claim that you don't recall.

  4. The official Governor Walker Twitter account (@GovWalker) follows the twitter account @DefendMichaelS, the SC police officer who killed Walter Scott with eight bullets into his back last week. Granted, the list of republican followers is long and Makes a good cheat sheet to ID racists passing as Law and Order advocates. It includes Jindal, Palin, Perry, Bachman, Ryan, Romney and of course the sritchers Coulter, Malkin & Ingraham.

    1. When fear and hatred are your political platform, racists are your core constituency.
