"We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. When the loyal opposition dies, I think the soul of America dies with it." Edward R. MurrowWe know that the Solidarity Singers are still going strong. We know that it pisses Scott Walker and the rest of the republican party off so much that he is willing to defy the Constitution.
The new rules will go into effect on April 16th!
(Stephanie)Marquis said Wisconsin's rules, which include a permit process for those organizing protests or other events at the Capitol and other state properties, are constitutional and have been part of Wisconsin's administrative code since 1979. She said the code is in place to protect "the safety of the building and the public," and was simply being being clarified and updated. It is so nice of the Big Government Walker administration to allow people to wear whatever they want to the Capitol without getting arrested.
One of the changes in the emergency rules is that a person would not need to receive a permit if he or she is holding "a sign that is not larger than 28 inches in length or width, or to any item of clothing worn by an individual."
I dream that wave after wave of glee clubs, church choirs and open mic participants descend on the state Capitol building singing until the DOA gives up these stupid, anti-democratic harrassment rules. Whether you're left, right or center, speak up at the Capitol or lose your right to do so in the future.

It's not by accident that the Founders put it in the FIRST Amendment.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
It's not a suggestion. It's the bedrock of who we are as a nation.
"Strict construction" and "original intent," are for the 99%.
Abuse the rules and they get stricter. At least that's how people used to raise their children to belong in a civil society.
ReplyDeleteThat's also how they kept the slaves from getting too uppity.
Deletewho "abused" the rules
