Change The Mascot

By Jeff Simpson

We brought up the topic recently about the Washington Redskins and their racist name.  How many are pushing to do the right thing and change it and how topics like this bring out the worst from our friends on the right like Ron Johnson and Kevin Binversie.

It was not just us, 50 US Senators sent a letter to Daniel Snyder asking for the name to be changed also.

A grassroots movement has now started and it is a powerful one.  It has also gathered many high profile supporters

Change the Mascot!

  1. Interesting to read here the utter lack of confidence Bears fans have regarding their team's prospects. Name calling is apparently all they've got. Well, that and Cutler. Makes you almost feel sorry for them, not really.

  2. Packer fans are such whiny little wimps -- call out their lies as to the origins of the teams moniker and they become little crybabies and name-callers.

Its a well known fact that, when the team was formed, Green Bay was the center of a sparsely populated backwards part of Wisconsin largely inhabited by Belgiums.

Between slurping barely edible bowls of Booyah, they were proud and gay, hence the name Packers.

Its offensive and myths about a non-existing meatpacking industry does not sanitize the teams name and logo (look at it again, what part of the anatomy do you see!).

So while it is good that people in Wisconsin are willing to support calls to change the patently offensive racial slur in D.C., you cheeseheads really need to clean up your own house first.

  3. C'mon big man, go for the trifecta of crazy and show us your hatred of women too.

    1. Well, that Packers are a bunch of little girls -- not exactly hatred of women, but fielding a team of little girls in the NFL is not respectful of women.

And Dredd is right -- the emblem on the side of Packer helmets is not an ear hole!

  4. What happened to the prior thread of comments about that fudge packer nonsense? We Packer fans are tough and can take it. Of course some teams' supporters do possess delicate sensibilities. In reading Dredd's lamentation, I really am sorry for labeling him and his ilk (their posts are in the deleted thread) as "Bears Fans". No other label in sports conjures up such a razor-sharp image of hopelessness, incompetence and squalor. My sincerest apologies, Dredd. You must now be working through a tailspin of grief, desolation, and even more grief considering you don't even have baseball to fall back on. Stay strong. Or maybe move.

  5. I am more offended by Washington than the term Redskins. If owned the team I would change Washington first, and that may be enough to calm the crazies.

  6. In response to the "Growing up Republican" post on 6/18: By any and every measure Brett Favre is a Viqueen fudge packer.
