They Can't Say We Didn't Warn Them

When Scott Walker was running for governor, some of the police and firefighter unions supported him because he was promising to end residency rules, something they wants for a long, long time.

We warned them not to trust him but they ignored us.

When Walker dropped his Act 10 bomb on the state, the same groups continued to support Walker because he told them that they would be exempt from the law.

We warned them not to trust him but they ignored us.

Now that Walker is sniffing around at a presidential run, he is considering making Act 10 apply to these groups as well.

Needless to say, they're not happy:
Responding to statements made yesterday by Gov. Scott Walker before the Governmental Research Association Conference in Milwaukee that he would consider signing legislation to expand Act 10 to include police officers and fire fighters, the Wisconsin Professional Police Association’s executive director, Jim Palmer, issued the following statement:
“Upon the introduction of his Act 10 legislation in 2010, Gov. Walker publicly expressed his belief that because public safety was so fundamentally important, police officers and fire fighters ought to maintain their rights to bargain over their wages, hours, and working conditions. If his comments yesterday were a trial balloon for a possible presidential run, then Gov. Walker has made a serious misstep. Law enforcement across the state supported the Governor in his last budget because he clearly had made law enforcement a top priority. Given that law enforcement officers and firefighters are almost universally paying towards their pensions and can no longer negotiate over their health insurance, there is no genuine need for a further expansion of Act 10. It is disappointing that public safety now appears to be taking a back seat to partisan presidential politics, and we hope the Governor reconsiders his unfortunate position on this issue.”
I am not happy that the police and firefighters might have to face the same misery the rest of the public sector is dealing with under Act 10, they can't say we didn't warn them.

We knew what a weasel he is all along.

  2. If you don't know how to embed vids, shouldn't do it. It is awful to hear that same video report each and every time I check to see what is posted here.

It does show disrespect to those of us that support the blog -- WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  3. I hope Walker makes the run for president. I'd love to see him in a REAL debate with a prepared candidate, Republican or Democrat. He can't go beyond his prepared notes and talking points, and when he has to move from a carefully crafted photo op to a real public arena, he will fall flat on his face. Walker isn't the brightest bulb in the chandelier, and in the harsh light of public scrutiny, he'll become just another passenger in the clown car that has become the Republican party.

  7. I have many law enforcement friends that love Walker up and down. Not hard to see this one coming but they don't think it will ever happen to them. They are essential services. Without them Walker would likely have never pulled Act 10 off. Conquer and divide baby!! Come join Club Screwed by Walker.

  8. To bad the Pigs...er... cops didn't think Scottie was making a fundamental mistake when included nurses, and prison guards and everyone else Scott walker attacked with act ten. No, many of these dooshbags couldn't wait to make some righteous overtime serving as scottie's palace guar while conducting constitutionally unwarranted searches of their fellow union members attempting to enter their capital building; and in the case of the capital police, physically violating people. MPD and dane county sheriffs aside, I think IceT had it right. Fuck the police

  9. Jim Palmer's indignity makes good theater. His position requires that he support an economic bargaining unit that is in conflict with the politics he chooses to bed down with. He should be the first to realize that his position is untenable and politically expendible to Walker's higher political aspirations. Your turn Jim...bend over, here it comes...again. Scott Walker and his teabag brigade are simply slaughtering pigs at the trough.

  10. ". . . and we hope the Governor reconsiders his unfortunate position on this issue". If he does, do you trust Scott Walker to keep his word should he be re-elected?
