Yesterday was week 19 of the Solidarity Fish Fry.
Going into it, I was worried about it being crowded due to it being Lent. I should have been more worried about the zombie rally going on at the other side of Serb Hall.
As for the crowds, it wasn't too bad, although we did get there a little later. Victoria, the union waitress, had the sense to save a long table for us, since we rarely all arrive at the same time. This allowed us guaranteed seating and the chance to spend time with all of our friends.
It turns out that last night, the Republican Party of Milwaukee County - the same people that brought you Darlene Wink and Tim Russell - were having a fund raiser. Scott Walker was one of the speakers, or so we were told.
After eating, Randy Bryce decided to take a walk to the other side to see what could be seen. I tagged along in case the thugs jumped him. We had to be careful to avoid the slime trail that Glenn Grothman had left as he slithered down the hallway earlier.
They had a small room reserved for the occasion. The entry way was guarded by an older man who was disrespecting the American flag by wearing it as a tie. He was standing in behind a table. Behind him was a huge amount of yard signs for the teahadist candidates in the spring elections, including Tom Anthony (county supervisor), Rebecca Bradly and Pat Roggensack.
The guy told us that it was indeed a fundraiser, charging $40 per person to get in, meaning they were clearing $30-$35 per sucker who paid to come in. The man then asked Randy if he had an interest in the Republican Party.
Randy then gave him the quote of the night in saying, "Um, yes, I have an interest in the Republican Party." The words weren't so remarkable as was the fact that he did so with a straight face. The constrained tone of his voice was also to be commended.
Sadly, Randy did not get his picture with Walker like he was hoping for.
So we had to settle for the next best thing:
Oh, well. Maybe next time.
And speaking of next time, make sure you join us next Friday for Week 20!
