Madison Retains Title of Crony Capitol of the World

As soon as Scott Walker took office in 2011, he started going about the job of thanking all of his cronies and campaign donors by giving them cushy jobs in state government, where they did little more than collect their paycheck.

Nearly three years later, and he's still paying back the favors, with the latest being Lynne Van Hollen, the wife of Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen:
Lynne Van Hollen has been named an assistant legal counsel at the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. Van Hollen, who is married to Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen, will start January 13, says Joy Staab, director of public affairs for the Department.

Staab says she did not know Van Hollen's salary and would have to check with the Human Relations coordinator who was out of the office Thursday.
As usual for the corporate media, the real story is buried at the bottom of the article:
Ed Wall, the secretary of the Department of Corrections, was one of J.B. Van Hollen's top deputies at the Department of Justice when he was tapped by Gov. Scott Walker in 2012 to head the Department of Corrections.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. This isn't a government anymore, it's a corporate-run syndicate.

  2. I assume her responsibilities will include shoveling billable hours, paid for with tax dollars, to wingnut attorneys.

  3. Do you seriously believe that Jim Doyle, Tony Earl, Marty Schreiber, and Pat Lucey didn't do the same thing?

After all, Pat Lucey gave a Circuit Court Judge position in Douglas County to the Senate Republican who provided the 17th (and deciding) vote for the merger of the University of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin State Universities in the 1970's.

    1. How many of dozens of civil service jobs did Walker change to political appointed jobs to accommodate all of his cronies? How many of Walker's people have been under investigation, arrested, charged and even convicted of crimes. Yes, cronyism happens in both parties, but nothing like we are seeing now.

Hell, if Tim Russell wasn't in jail, he'd be running a secret router in Walker's office today.

    2. Lucy appointed a member of the other party to a position? Wow that really is corrupt! And that happened something like 40 years ago. You're right on top of things, I'll give that to you.

    3. Yes, Lucey rewarded the Republican Senator for forcing the merger of the two university systems. A payoff of the highest order. That gives you no pause? (I voted for him twice, mind you.)

  4. I didn't vote for Walker in 2010 or in the recall election, and I won't vote for him in 2014. But you are seriously deluded if you don't think that this is what Governors of BOTH parties have done to the maximum extent permitted by law.

    1. You are sorely uninformed if you don't recognize that Walker's corruption of the state hiring process is unprecedented in modern times. Go ahead, keep making the pathetic excuse that "everyone does it". Is there an honest Republican out there anymore, or are you all afraid of the thugs that have taken over your party? Pathetic.

  5. madison is simply a cesspool -- and its actually more racist than milwaukee -- one of the most hyper-segregated in U.S.

A madison liberal wants to steal from you and won't stand up for anyone else's right to get a break.

    1. Madison is really a wonderful town to live in, with the exception of the perverted, drunken, thieving Republican scumbags who show up at the Capitol every year to figure out new ways to plunder Wisconsin's assets.

    2. Madison is far less segregated than Milwaukee, with pockets of low income housing spread across the city, from east to west. A sharp contrast to Milwaukee. How many miles is the inner city in Milwaukee from the nearest million-dollar home? In Madison, this distance can be measured in a few blocks. Try again with your ignorant attacks.

    4. It wasn't "madison liberals" who greased the skids for Lynne Van Hollen's job. In fact liberals -- no matter where they're from -- currently have no influence on anything done by State government.

  6. I see Men's Health Magazine awarded Madison the second best city in America for men. We were 1st last year and they awarded us smartes women in America the year before. Combine that with multiple top ten small cities to live in in America and you have to
Wonder why the teajadis want to destroy the place.
