This is where Mitt Romney comes in. He also stopped campaigning, except for the fact that he didnt stop campaigning, he just stopped calling it campaigning.
As Malcontends points out, Mitt is collecting things that the Red Cross does NOT NEED!
Unfortunately, due to logistical constraints the Red Cross does not accept or solicit individual donations or collections of items. Items such as collected food, used clothing and shoes must be sorted, cleaned, repackaged and transported which impedes the valuable resources of money, time, and personnel. - Red Cross
A quick recap before we get to the egregious act of Mitt Romney, The East coast gets hit with a devastating storm, President Obama stops campaigning and starts working bipartisanly with republicans from the east coast to help Americans. Mitt Romney, continues campaigning but instead of giving a speech, he collects unwanted items in a battleground state(not in a Hurricane Sandy affected area) so he can take have a nice photo op so the American people know "he cares". While this is not necessarily bad, it just shows him to be the shallow empty shell that we all know he is.
However as Capper likes to say, there is more there is always more! At first glance you can say, its nice that Mitt has taken the time to collect all of these items, even if they are not wanted by the Red Cross, as someone can use them. You can not control what people bring when they want to give and you ask for donations.
STOP THE PRESSES!
The Mitt Romney campaign BOUGHT $5000 worth of supplies from Wal-mart so the crowd would have something to give away!
By the time Romney's motorcade rolled up to the high school, the projector screens were displaying Red Cross donation information, and grocery bags stuffed with supplies were piled up in a corner of the gym.
Romney kept his speech brief, expressing concern for the victims of the storm, while trying to keep the mood of the event upbeat. Standing on a small platform, he recalled a time in high school when he and his classmates were charged with cleaning up a football field covered in garbage.
“The person who was responsible for organizing the effort said, 'Just line up along the yard lines,'" the candidate said. "'You go between the goal line and the 10-yard line. And the next person, between 10 and 20, and then just walk through and do your lane. And if everybody cleans their line, why, we’ll be able to get the job done.'"
"And so today," he went on. "We are cleaning one lane, if you will."
The crowd of about 2,000 erupted in applause.
But even as Romney, clad in blue jeans and rolled-up sleeves, hustled around his area of the gym, shaking hands, thanking supporters, and stacking cases of bottled water on top of each other, signs of stagecraft remained.
As supporters lined up to greet the candidate, a young volunteer in a Romney/Ryan T-shirt stood near the tables, his hands cupped around his mouth, shouting, "You need a donation to get in line!"
Empty-handed supporters pled for entrance, with one woman asking, "What if we dropped off our donations up front?"
The volunteer gestured toward a pile of groceries conveniently stacked near the candidate. "Just grab something," he said.
Two teenage boys retrieved a jar of peanut butter each, and got in line. When it was their turn, they handed their "donations" to Romney. He took them, smiled, and offered an earnest "Thank you."
So not only did they get a cache of goods the red cross could NOT use for Hurricane relief that was needed in "non battle ground states", but it was the Romney campaign itself that bought the unwanted supplies! I guess the people working the Romney campaign have not had much experience giving. Then in Mitt's effort to show how much he relates to "the folks" he told a story of how when he was in High School, he helped clean up the football field once. Which is analogous to cleaning up NYC after the storm.
Mitt set a new low in American politics yesterday and further showed why he has no business ever being considered for the Presidency of the United States! Mitt though, is in on the joke, as he could not get out of that event fast enough, he had to get to a concert!
Also Fox & Friends desperately tried to make Mitt Romney the hero here:
The Romney money is shining through even here. The Rachel Maddow video above begins with an anti Tammy Baldwin advert.
ReplyDeleteJeff, all you're doing is showing just how mean-spirited and ugly you people can be. Shame on you.
ReplyDelete"how mean-spirited and ugly you people can be"
DeleteWell, that right there is mean spirited and ugly, trying to dehumanize people like that.
Lisa, if truth = ugly, than you're correct.
ReplyDeleteYes sometimes when you step on manure you have to say oh crap...versus "Oh I think I stepped on organic material"....nice article...calling it how we see it, shallow and inconsiderate of the millions who are suffering at this point due to Hurricane Sandy.
ReplyDeleteAs an Obama supporter, if the Obama campaign pulled this sort of thing I'd be sick to my stomach. I also read that before the rally they actually played their standard opening Mitt Romney video to the crowd. Frankly I can't imagine why Romney voters don't see through this stuff.
ReplyDeleteLisa T.... are you serious? What about showing the voters that when Mitt Romney claimed he was going to stop campaigning he was outright lying, is mean-spirited? You should think about this candidate you are supporting because he's not someone who gives a hoot about anyone but himself.
ReplyDeleteRomney Ryan 2012. Quick send more anvils as we are sinking fast!
ReplyDeleteYep, I guess liberals consider willingly helping others a stunt. It is only when people are forced or legislated to give to others that they consider it real charity. Romney has helped others with no publicity about it all his life. Choosing to help like this is is typical for him - not a stunt. You are attributing to him the mindset of an Obama, which is focused only on the appearance of caring. Romney is the real deal when it comes to helping others.
ReplyDeleteTake the blinders off. Romney gave to the church, and how did the "church" repay him? They allowed him to use them as a tax shelter.
DeleteI wish someone could study the inner workings of minds like yours. I certainly haven't been able to figure out why people are in such denial over such a worthless candidate, but then again, people voted for Bush twice.
It was staged, cynical stunt, and totally in opposition to what the Red Cross had requested. How is that helping?
DeleteWhat's next, throwing anvils at people drowning?
When you buy $5000 worth of unwanted goods so u can have people pretend to give them to you, it is a STUNT. Plain and simple no spin
ReplyDeleteInstead of bitching about how others choose to donate their money and gifts, why don't you start your own fund drive? How does this hateful column provide any help for the victims?
DeleteBy telling people how shallow Mitt romney is, and helping re elect President Obama so organizations like FEMA will continue to be run by competent Adults!
DeleteWhy start a fund drive when they dont want or need anything that Willard bought?
Thanks for visiting though!
@Rick Franz
DeleteWhy should we start a fund drive when it would be smarter and more efficient to direct people to the Red Cross? We'd be as foolish and slimy as Romney.
Say what you like about Chris Christie, but the man can sure count electoral votes. He knows Romney will soon be a highway stain in the rear view mirror of history and so the Christie 2016 campaign has begun.
