The Walker Budget Is Already Working! Part LXXVII

And now it's killing businesses that had been around for generations:
Soref's Carpet City has closed, according to a sign on its door.

The longtime carpet retailer was closed Tuesday, but the sign said remaining inventory will be sold at a "deep discount" by appointment only, providing a phone number of (414) 943-2517. All gift cards will be honored, according to the sign.

The store at 431 S. Second St., Milwaukee, had been open for more than 45 years. It was facing several lawsuits for unpaid taxes or bills, including one from WITI-TV (Channel 6) and two from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue alleging nearly $10,000 in unpaid taxes and unemployment compensation. It also was delinquent in $20,000 in property taxes and fees for 2010 and 2011, according to the Milwaukee City Assessor's Office.
There is no word on how many people have lost their job due to Walker "turning the state around."

  1. Here's an idea Cap, maybe you could tell us how your new governor would have saved these jobs/business if she had the chance. State bailout for the carpet industry since there is no new construction to bring them enough profits to keep up to the oppresive tax bills? Any other plans? Gentle readers, any ideas to have saved Sorefs? Maybe Kathleen wants to add and idea?

    1. I thought we wanted a small government that didn't think it could stick its finger in the market.

  2. A bailout isn't necessary. In fact, just the opposite. Stop giving the big companies all of our money and let the people keep it. Then they could have the money to buy the new carpeting that would have kept Soref's open.

But that would make too much sense, right?

    1. Now we are getting somewhere, stop the corporate welfare. By letting the people keep it do we lower taxes or should the government "spread the wealth around" to who they think deserves it, Like our president believes?

Never thought I'd see Capper take the conservative stance on the high tax issue plaguing this country.

Remember, Walker's hands are tied as long as there are "one million signatures" on recall petitions.

  4. When Walker said he would turn the state around he meant: back to 1929.
