"Dark Vein of Intolerance"

Colin Powell was on Meet The Press and let it rip about the hard shift to the right that the republican party has taken.

POWELL: There’s also a dark — a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party. What do I mean by that? I mean by that that they still sort of look down on minorities. How can I evidence that?
When I see a former governor say that the President is “shuckin’ and jivin’,” that’s racial era slave term. When I see another former governor after the president’s first debate where he didn’t do very well, says that the president was lazy. He didn’t say he was slow. He was tired. He didn’t do well. He said he was lazy. Now, it may not mean anything to most Americans, but to those of us who are African Americans, the second word is shiftless and then there’s a third word that goes along with that. The birther, the whole birther movement. Why do senior Republican leaders tolerate this kind of discussion within the party?

WHile I think he tempered his comments tremendously, I can answer his question in terms of why do Republican Leaders tolerate this kind of discussion in two words:  Reince Priebus!

It is nice to hear a republican call out this disgusting racism and intolerance, maybe there is hope after all!

  1. That video was very disappointing -- when I say you state Colon "let it rip" I was sure you meant an explosion of the bowels.

    ummmmmmmmmmm... Colon...

There is no "dark vein of intolerance" than killing more than a million innocent Iraq women, children, and non-combatants because you lied about WMD.

I would have preferred to see Colon pass gas and watched how everyone on camera wrinkled their nose and looked embarrassed while silently sitting in the stink.

We all know such an gaseous outburst could only come from the colon.

    1. colon powell is responsible for the murder of more than 1 million civilians in Iraq -- he would call them "collateral damage". Surely Capper knows what I am referring to.

colon powell has no integrity to talk about equity or justice -- he is not an elder statesman. He is a bush lackey and he got on national tv and lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

This war destroyed US fiscal integrity -- all "off-the-books".

American troops leveled entire cities, including the City of Mosques.

Meg, you blog some good stuff, but you need to learn some history if you want to make a difference.

I don't fault Capper for holding Colon up because he happened to say something "inconvenient" to repugs.

But we cannot forget the war crimes and crimes against humanity that colon power is complicit with.

Beside, Capper did state "let it rip" and, coming from a colon, I would have expected major release of flatulence.

    2. And by the way -- the people colon power is responsible for murdering were people of color.

So now he wants to talk about inclusion in the republican party?

      Rather hear him pass gass.
