Where I Again Show Up A "Newsman"

Vince Vitrano, of WTMJ4*, made a rather misleading and quasi-political statement on his Facebook page:
I find it interesting that a Milwaukee County Board committee is
discussing a resolution concerning City of Milwaukee taxi permits.

My interest is not in the Board's position on taxi cabs, but rather in its desire to medal in City politics. This is the same Board screaming bloody murder over the State's desire to impose changes at the County level.

Hello pot? This is kettle. You're black.
Actually it had nothing to do with meddling with city business, but to protect county taxpayers, as I pointed out in my admittedly snarky comment to him:
Well, the county has a $1.1 million dollar contract with the cab company for their dispatch services. Since they have the monopoly on cab licenses, the county is at the mercy of the cab company. Increasing competition will help drive the cost to taxpayers down. And here I thought you were supposed to be the newsman. Heh.
I'm not which is worse - the fact that I, as a mere blogger can again show up a "professional newsman" or that people actually watch and believe the crap they are spewing out.

*They're still waiting for approval to change their call letter to WGOP.

  1. I remember when reporters knew the difference between metal, meddle, and mettle.

  2. And yet, this great news man doesn't even think to expand further, and talk about how Walker, and may other governors like his uselessness, don't want the federal government interfering in state politics, are more than happy to muddle (-: in county and local governments affairs.

I'm sure he's just hoping to follow in the footsteps of blinky and her husband.

  4. You said, "Actually it had nothing to do with meddling with city business, but to protect county taxpayers"

I'm not sure how that jives with the actual resolution that he was discussing yesterday in the Board committee hearing:
"A resolution supporting the City of Milwaukee’s Common Council File Number 111222 seeking to repeal the City’s cap on issuing new public passenger vehicle permits."

Sounds like the County is weighing in on the City permitting to me. But you got him! Or something.

I'm sure you've already moved on to the next totally fabricated outrage and are dreaming up the one past that.

This kind of tack really torques me tight. Specifically, when people are too alliterate to pick and spell the right big word.

Jive, jibe; the latter is the one to use here.

  5. Dan Cody: When the county "weighs in" on the city's taxicab policies through a non-binding resolution, that is one thing. IMPOSING policy on the city, as the state Repubs have done and are planning to do again, is quite another thing. If state legislators limited their meddling to advisory resolutions, many of us could live with that.

  6. What I found interesting about the resolution was the committee wants the city to lift its cap (which is good), but didn't seem very interest in lifting the County's cap of cab permits issue at the airport. I'm glad they weighed in as the city does need to lift the cap, but a little reflection is needed as well.

  7. Ron, I'm not talking about that. Capper is mocking Vitrano "newsman" for getting it wrong and said "Actually it had nothing to do with meddling with city business, but to protect county taxpayers".

It had everything to do with City business. Capper makes stuff up like this with such frequency that it's hard to even keep up with it.
